Jemimah leaned back, allowing Vickie to help her tighten the hold of her crop top. For the party, she had opted for a crop top once more, and Vickie was the one tying the knot because Doyin, Paul, and Peter still had not explained.
Deep down, she wondered what kind of excuse they would come up with - if they would lie to her or if they would tell the truth. Ever since she found out the truth, she has been having a hard time believing that her friends deliberately hid it from her.
They had not just hidden it from her; they had portrayed King and the Titians as murderers and bloodthirsty people. She had even sworn internally that she would run if she ever came across them. What were Paul and Peter thinking? What did they expect her reaction to be when she found out?
She had debated several times whether to bring it up with them or not and then the opportunity presented itself through Sarki. Remembering Doyin's shocked face and the twins' calm faces but anxious expressions made her have a headache. It was the first party ever that she was going to alone.
"Are you good?" Vickie asked with a small frown, tainting her pretty face. Jemimah responded quickly with a smile, "Yeah. I'm just bothered about something," she replied, picking up her small bag and stepping out of the room. Black had sent her a message minutes before saying that he was already outside the hostel.
She stopped quietly by the staircase while staring ahead. She didn't like that she was at loggerheads with her only friends but she didn't like it more that they hid such a piece of crucial information from her. She gulped lightly before continuing her descent down the stairs until she was outside the hostel.
"You look good," Black cooed as Jemimah entered the car, pulling her lips apart in a smile.
"When you say it like that, you are going to make me have second thoughts," she responded, causing Black to laugh.
"Might be funny, but even if you are only wearing a bikini, you will still be safe with me," he declared, and Jemima chuckled. "Why?" She asked.
"Because you are Jeremiah's sister, in a way that makes you my sister," Black replied with an amused smile on his lips, and Jemima nodded as she leaned into the car.
Murderers her feet.
"What's the courtesy for which Sarki is hosting a party?" She started a conversation the moment Black drove out of the school compound.
"Nothing. He just wants to have fun; that's the way he is. "He throws parties just because he wants to," Black said, his phone buzzing in his pocket. Leaving his left hand on the steering wheel, he allowed his right hand to delve into his pockets and bring out his phone. A smile spread across his lips as he glanced at his phone.
"Your brother is asking if I've picked you up." Black announced and Jemima nodded her head lightly while turning to stare at the streets shrouded in lights.
"Wait, are you guys not on speaking terms?" Black asked and Jemima chose not to reply.
She didn't know the exact answer to that question; after helping her out with Professor Farida's issue, they hadn't spoken again. Their relationship appeared to be on shaky ground; this had never happened before in their entire lives.
They had always been close since they were children; she was clingy to him, and Jeremiah adored his sister; he was the one person she was never afraid to be honest with, and she was the one person who understood him the best, despite the fact that he never explained himself. And now, their carefully cultivated relationship was on the verge of unraveling due to secrets that Jeremiah would rather keep hidden than reveal to her.
"There is nothing wrong with us; we both need a little time," she finally said, and Black looked at her with a serious expression. Jemimah turned to him and chuckled, "Yes. You are all partly to blame for what is going on with us, but do not worry, Jeremiah and I are the best siblings on the planet, and we will work it out," she said as Black drove into the club's premises.
