Jeremiah stared into space, the only thing reminding him that he was there was Micah's long legs that were stretched out beside him. Right from his first year, when we became his school son and even before he became his school son, there was a kind of peace and calm that he would always feel. It was contrary to what people thought and would usually think.
How will you claim to feel calm and at peace in the presence of the deadliest cultist in the entire CUA?
But Jeremiah did, he always did and that was because he knew that Micah had strength and over and over again, he had used that strength to protect him, something that he appreciated very much.
"How are you feeling Jeremiah?" Micah finally spoke and Jeremiah shrugged trying to place a hand on how exactly he was feeling. Over and over people had asked him, how are you feeling? And yet he was yet to come up with an answer, the truth was that he didn't know, he didn't know if he was supposed to feel some kind of way, if he was supposed to be sad or anything.
"Honestly King, I don't know" Jeremiah replied honestly and Micah nodded slowly.
"I don't know whether I'm supposed to be angry or sad or dejected or pained but I think what I feel like is...' he trailed turning and meeting Micah's eyes, "lost'
"I feel lost," he repeated as he stared at his white sneakers.
"I don't just feel lost, I have lost one of the most precious things to me and I don't know what to do" Jeremiah said softly.
"I know what everyone is saying about her and I don't want to hear it, she is the person I chose, no one is allowed to talk trash about her" Jeremiah said, his voice firm.
"But I don't know what went wrong or how it went wrong, I...." Jeremiah trailed off, swallowing.
"I haven't thought of a future without her in it" he said softly and he allowed the statement to simmer in the air before chuckling softly.
Until he said it, he hadn't even realized it himself. A future where Bimbo wasn't there, he hadn't imagined it, never thought about it, never guessed there will be such a future in fact but here was he was, without her, and he was now facing a future without her in it and he was totally unsure how he was supposed to move forward.
"What am I supposed to do without her?" Jeremiah asked as he turned to Micah who chuckled.
"Well you could try eating more" he replied and the both of them stared at each other for a while before Jeremiah burst into laughter.
"What has Jemimah been telling you?" he asked, a hint of a smile on his face, for the first time in weeks, he was actually laughing.
"She didn't need to say anything, you have gotten leaner. I have eyes to see that" Micah replied and Jeremiah curled his lips.
"Well I'll try my best and do that" he responded and Micah nodded.
"Have you spoken to Bimbo since then?" he asked and Jeremiah shook his head.
"I can't see her without losing my mind. I don't know what to say to her" Jeremiah replied and Micah nodded watching as Jeremiah laughed, the rims of his eyes turning red.
"The truth is that if I see her, there's a higher chance that I'll fall to my knees and beg her to come back to me" he said and Micah said, a small smile spreading across her lips.
"The Titan isn't your burden to carry Jeremiah. It has never been your burden, it will not be in the future, there's no need for you to sacrifice anything for it" Micah suddenly spoke and Jeremiah froze on his seat and he slowly turned to Micah fully.
"You heard" he said softly and Micah looked taken aback and laughed.
"Allow me to repeat myself, Adeleke Jeremiah, the Titian isn't your burden or your cross to carry. Just because you are my school son doesn't mean that you get your own share to carry. The cross isn't so heavy for me to carry that I now need your help" Micah said sternly and Jeremiah lowered his eyes.
"Jeremiah" Micah called again and Jeremiah raised his head.
"Am I understood?" He asked and Jeremiah swallowed.
"It's really no trouble, I can help" Jeremiah replied and Micah cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Understood," Jeremiah replied and Micah nodded.
"Good" he replied as he took a scoop of the almost melted chocolate ice cream.
"I didn't know you liked chocolate ice cream" Jeremiah pointe dout and glanced at Jemimah and Black seated on another table few meters away from them, "Did Jemimah influence you already?" he asked, another smile on his lips and Micah crinked his brows.
"Yeah. She's quite good at that" he replied and Jeremiah turned to Micah in surprise. Micah met his eyes and chuckled.
"No, you don't get to look at me like that" Micah said and Jeremiah burst into laughter.
Exactly like he had thought, with Micah, there would always be calm, peace and even strength. Here he was laughing like he wasn't sobbing into his bed hours earlier. This was the Micah effect.
"Thank you King" Jeremiah suddenly blurted out and Micah dropped the ice cream on the table.
"Want more?" he asked and Jeremiah stared at him and then to the empty ice cream cup before nodding.
"Yes. I want the chocolate flavour this time around" he replied and Micah nodded.
"Is this healthy though?" he asked and Micah blinked.
"It's our seventh cup" Jeremiah replied with a hint of laughter in his eyes.
"You are an adult Jeremiah, you no longer have teeth that will fall out when you take too much ice cream" Micah replied before walking away.
The next second, Jeremiah was bowling with laughter.
