Her soulmate

Her soulmate. Vincent called him, her soulmate. Charlotte Pond's soulmate. Could that be true? Could her soul really be bound to him? Does he even believe in that sort of thing? Does she? If it were true, would he be happy? Would he be disappointed? What would Amy say? She kissed him, after all... Cherry wonders sometimes what happened after that. Why was Amy so quick getting over the Doctor?

She lies awake in her room in the Tardis, the deep blue sheets tucked around her to keep her warm, and she keeps her eyes shut, willing herself to go to sleep. But slumber evades her, and her thoughts continue to spiral. She sighs loudly, the noise filling the silence of the room, and she opens her eyes, straining to see in the pitch black of the room. She makes out the old, leather-bound book on her nightstand and a low groan escapes her lips. She's still for a moment, but then, she groggily climbs out of bed. She wraps her duvet around her shoulders because she's only wearing a vest top and red silky shorts, and then she picks the book up and hugs it to her chest. She creeps out of her room and down the corridors, smiling to herself when she sees the lights are off in the console room and the Doctor must be asleep. She had been a little worried that he might still be awake because he seems to never sleep, but she has gotten lucky.

She walks down the steps and onto the glass platform with the seats and the control console, and she places the old book on the nearest cream leather seat before she circles the console with her eyebrows furrowed. She flicks a switch, which she thinks is the light switch, and a relieved smile stretches onto her tired face when a strange buzz echoes through the copper-lined room and the lights glow. She's pleased she didn't accidentally press the wrong button and send the Tardis hurtling towards a sun. Now, she just has to remember which button turns on the round screen, which acts as a window for the ship so she can see the stars as they float in whatever remote corner of space the Doctor left the ship in.

"Which one is it?" She whispers to herself, wiggling her fingers over the console with her eyebrows knit together. The Tardis buzzes again, and the screen switches on by itself, and Cherry smiles again, patting the console gratefully. "Thank you."

Cherry picks up the book and takes a seat on the stairs, cushioning the cold metal beneath her legs with the duvet and wrapping whatever is left around her body to keep her warm. She leans her head against the cool metal railing and opens the book up to the first page. It's a detailed biography of a painter from a planet she's never heard of, with pictures of all their paintings, and she flicks through the images with intrigue.

"Can't sleep?" A voice carries from the top of the stairs, and it startles Cherry. She jumps, almost knocking the heavy book off of her lap, and she covers her heaving chest with one hand and turns to the alien with wide eyes.

"Doctor! You scared me," she breathes out, shaking her head and slamming the book shut. He laughs and motions to the empty space next to her with a questioning look. She moves her duvet out of the way and pats the metal step, inviting him to join her. She rakes her eyes over his body, noticing he's still fully dressed in his usual getup, blue bow tie and all, and she arches an eyebrow at him. "You weren't sleeping?"
