Synopsis
"I hate gays!" declares "Thiwat," who despises gay people. His world turns upside down when he moves into a dorm and ends up sharing a room with "Thara," a handsome, part-Thai-part-American drummer who is a heartthrob wherever he goes. Girls build bridges just to get close to him, assuming he's the epitome of masculinity and has conquered half the faculty. But then the harsh truth hits Thiwat right in the face:
"Sure, Thara has conquered half the faculty, but sorry, not girls - guys. He's gay!"
And Thara himself declares unabashedly:
"Yeah, I'm gay."
That moment, Thiwat comes to understand the old saying perfectly:
"The thing you hate is exactly what you end up with!"
What I Think
Just a heads up, this book does deal with some heavy stuff like intense homophobia, assault, child neglect, and some toxic relationships. But as you get deeper into the story, you start to see why things are the way they are. The characters are really well-developed – so much so that you end up caring for them, even the ones who are supposed to be the 'villains'.
And yeah, I caught the whole series too. Totally blew me away – I was literally sitting there, holding my heart, tearing up big time. Watching it live every Monday night for the last two months was something else. Totally worth losing sleep and putting off other stuff.
I really got into the family vibes and the genuine friendships. The chemistry between the characters? Incredible. And all the plot twists kept me on my toes. The ending hit hard – it was both heartbreaking and somehow, sweet and satisfying.
