Part 15 / everyday is the same?

Waking up and seeing him like that. It was heartbreaking to just know that he wasn't awake and Marco said that he might not wake up for a while longer.

It had been about a day maybe two since you woke up yourself. Your injuries still hurt a little but you didn't have to have bandages on all of them now but some you still did.

You started to get back into doing more simple things around the ship as well.

Sure you wouldn't be able do anything too hard as your injuries wouldn't be able to take it and that would probably earn you a lecture from Marco again.

Plus it would just end up hurting again and the last thing you currently wanted was more pain.

Right now it was a little late at night. Most people were already asleep or going to sleep anyways.

It was never easy for you to sleep but especially now that you knew Ace was alive but just not awake.

You know that it's a good thing as his body is recovering from his own injuries and out of everyone on the ship Ace and probably Whitebeard himself had the worst injuries.

You honestly couldn't imagine what it would be like if you lost him.

It would be the worst case scenario and it scared you if anything.

It was possibly your worst nightmare and if anything went wrong then it could be your reality.

A terribly horrifying reality.

But everyone else reassured you that he would be okay and he would recover.

And in your gut you believed it. You believed that you could wake up to your love one day and he would be awake again.

But your heart ached at the thought of not seeing him again.

After a while of just lying in bed and dwelling in your thoughts you finally decided to get up.

You wanted to go to Aces room and right now it seemed better than just lying in bed and thinking about the worst possible outcome for him.

After a moment you got to his room. You slowly opened the door and stepped inside.

It looked the same as every other day you've visited him.

Sure it was a little more clean because of you but he still wasn't awake.

Marco had told you that it would take a little while for him to actually wake up but you wanted it too be sooner.

You wanted to speak to him again.

You sighed and sat on his bed next to him. It broke your heart everytime you had to see him like this but you couldn't stop visiting him.

It might hurt but it was better than not knowing wether he was okay.

"Ace.." You whispered quietly as your thumb caressed his cheek.

You don't remember the last time you've been in an actual safe place and been able to just talk to him.

It felt like forever and you just wanted him to be okay with you again.

"You'll be okay." You say once again quietly. You didn't even know if he could actually hear you but that didn't matter. If he did then that's what mattered more right now.

"I promise you'll be fine...everyone will be." Sure that wasn't a great promise to be making after a war but you wanted to see him okay again.

To be honest you would've been crying already if it wasn't late at night. Mainly because you feared waking anyone else up.

For now though you decided to stay with Sce for a while.

You didn't want to move and even though the room around was practically freezing Aces skin was still very warm thanks to his devil fruit.

You lied down next to him and laid your head against his shoulder. It brought you a little comfort and when you closed your eyes you could pretend that it was just like before he left.

That because of his narcolepsy he was asleep and you just so happened to crawl into bed nect to him with your head resting comfortably on his shoulder.

All that was different is that he very much wasn't just asleep but for now you could just pretend.

Make it feel like everything is okay just for a little while.

Just while you fell asleep.

You woke up groaning as you felt someones hand in your hair.

You batted the hand away just expecting Marco or something trying to wake you up like normal. But even that was a little weird for Marco.

Then you felt a little squeeze on your waist. Someones arm was wrapped around you? Your eyes weren't open yet and you thought you were just in your own bed until...No i fell asleep next to Ace didn't i?

But wait a minute.

If I'm sleeping next to ace and someones arm is around me.

That has to mean..

You open your eyes to see a pair staring back at you. Actually a freckled face with a soft little smile on his face.

Your eyes began to water as you saw him awake. He must've woken up while you were asleep and it was about to make you cry if yiu weren't careful.

You hugged him as tightly as you could once the realisation set in.

Ace groans and yet hugs you back. He didn't care that his wounds still hurt..that didn't matter anymore not to him.

"I missed you so much.." Ace could swear you said that about 20 times while crying happy tears.

"I missed you too my firefly." He almost started to cry for gods sake.

He was gone for far too long.

But now..he was okay. He was awake and in your arms.

You could die happy just knowing that he was awake and alive and that he was just here with you.

You let go after a moment realising that the hug would hurt the wound on his chest.

"Sorry." You said before lying back down beside him and lying your head against his shoulder. "I just..didn't think you'd wake up so soon."

"I know...its fine. I'm awake now right?" Yeah he was. Thats what matters most right now.

There was a comfortable silence between you two as he wrapped his arm back around your waist and with his other hand he wiped away your tears not wanting to see you cry.

"I shouldn't have left you."

"Ace its-"

"No it's not. It was selfish. I wanted to get rid of him and I know everyone else did as well but I didn't listen and just went after him." He buried his face into your hair as he spoke.

"Can you forgive me, firefly?" He asks softly with a hopeful look in his eyes as he looked down at you.

"Of course I can, fire boy. I will..every time."
