"And that's when I told Bill that doubling our investments would be a big risk, but what Lathario is doing is way too good to pass up," the stuffy man said in front of me. "Bill, being the obnoxious snob he is doesn't listen and ends up passing the opportunity. I took money out of my personal account, and I ended up tripling it."
The man starts laughing and we all join him even though we have no idea what in the hell he's talking about. I don't even know who the hell Bill is.
I read the rest of my friend's faces, and I can see they have no idea what the hell the man in front of us is talking about either.
My eyes leave the group and scan the crowd. I see Candance and Camille, but I see Leilani nowhere. Where has she gone?
My eyes finally found her near the bar. With...someone. Dark hair. I can't make out his face. I can't make out who he is.
All I know is I want to break his jaw.
"I'll be back," I say, leaving without even waiting for someone to acknowledge what I said.
I make my way over to Leilani and the man with the soon-to-be rearranged face, but someone stopping in front of me stops me. My eyebrows raise in surprise at Victoria Anderson standing in front of me.
"Santiago Alvaro," she muses. "My, my, my. You've certainly grown since the last time we've crossed paths." She interlinks her arms with me. "Come. Corey and I would love to catch up."
My eyes are locked on Leilani and the guy who's now rubbing her back. What the fuck is he touching my hermosa for?
"Corey, dear, look who it is," Victoria announces as she ushers me unwillingly to where the Holy Trinity is standing. Corey Anderson. Micheal Lovaine. Tom Lathario. The three of them are the biggest and richest businessmen in the Washington tristate area.
If you ever want to be somebody in this life; knowing them and having their contact would do you good.
Back in college, I used to think that dating Evelyn Anderson was the best thing that ever happened to me. She was beautiful, smart, exciting, and her father was Corey Anderson of Anderson Series 500.
My eyes flick back over to the bar and Leilani and the man are no longer in sight. My jaw flexes as my senses start to heighten. Where the hell is she?
"Alvaro," Corey says, inspecting me. Mainly my suit. "Don't you look sharp? How long has it been? Two? Three years?"
I keep my smile tight and precise. But still, make sure it looks a little genuine. "Around that time frame. How are you, Mr. Anderson? How's Kendric?"
Kendric is Evelyn's older brother who has all types of problems. Evelyn never really disclosed that type of information when we were together.
