Chapter 9: Friend date?

Araneae and the others were now back on the chopper flying back to base. Araneae was tired and in her own little world, lost in thought.

"Araneae you did well today," Cypher says sitting next to her.

"Sorry?" she replies taking off her headphones to hear better.

"You outstanding. Good job," Cypher reiterates.

"Thanks," she says smiling.

"Well done," Omen says on the other side of Cypher. "Very impressive to get 30 on your first mission."

"Agreed," Sage chimes in.

"I'm surprised you trained professionals let me get that many," Araneae comments.

"You got them all due to your own strength and potential, no one was going easy on you," Cypher responds while taking off his hat and placing it on Araneae's head just because.

"What was that for?" Araneae smiles as she removes the hat that was just placed on her head.

"Just because," Cypher shrugs taking the hat from Araneae and setting it on his knee.

Araneae trailed behind Cypher and the others as they walked back to the doors of the base. Again she was lost in her thoughts.

"Welcome back! How was it?" Killjoy asks, jumping into Raze's arms and kissing her on the cheek as soon as she walked through the door.

"We won and Rainy did amazing." Raze replies carrying her girlfriend as she continued to walk so that everyone could come in.

"She dropped 30" Cypher said patting Araneae on the shoulder, snapping her back into the moment. Others congratulating her as she smiled.

"Damn Rainy! 30 kills on your first mission!" Gekko cheers, walking over to the group.

"Yea  I was on fire!" Araneae cheerfully responds high fiving and then fist bumping the tennis ball  boy in front of her.

The group still continued chatting but Araneae's smile faded and she walked straight into Gekko, resting her head on his chest, then wrapped her arms around him.

A little shocked Gekko slowly wraps his arms around the smaller woman in front of him.

"Is everything ok?" Gekko whispers, leaning down a bit.

"Not really," Araneae replies, voice barely audible.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Gekko asks, genuine and concerned.

"It was hard," Araneae starts. "Killing you. I froze. And everyone saw." Araneae confesses. "And I tried to play it off but it's hard to kill someone you-" she stopped her sentence there, embarrassed that she was about to say what she was about to say.

"Someone you care a lot about?" Gekko suggests, knowing what she has actually meant to say.

"Yeah," she replies sighing a bit.

"It is hard. It becomes normal after a while. You just gotta remember it's not us," Gekko replies pulling her in a bit closer, rubbing her back as he did.

"Yeah I know," Araneae replies subconsciously breathing in Gekko's scent.

"Hey let's go out or something. It'll take your mind off it," he suggested.

"Like on a date?" Araneae asks lifting her head off his chest to look him in the eyes.

"Uh, like a friend date?" Gekko asks, suddenly becoming a more nervous and aware of his surroundings.

"Sure," Araneae replies smiling. "Where to?"

"There's a boba shop tat just opened near the bakery down town, there?" Gekko says her smile relaxing him as he reciprocated the smile.

"Sounds great. Let me just go get changed first," Araneae says pulling away from their hug, starting to walk off to her room.

Gekko was just standing there, big smile evident on his face as Iso scoffs before walking over to the boy who was foolishly dazed by the blondie.

"Gekko, go freshen up yourself," Iso states snapping Gekko out of his trance.

"What?" Gekko asks embarrassed he didn't hear Iso.

Chuckling and rolling his eyes Iso begins again. "Go get freshened up."

"Oh! Right! Thanks Iso!" Gekko says before running off to his room to make sure he looks good and what not.

(Araneae and Gekko are walking to the boba place btw)

"Pinche cabrones!" Gekko exclaims. "So they found out you were remembering your life and then they wiped it again? How many times did they do that?!"He angrily asks.

"I'm not sure. My therapist's sister Hailey wasn't supposed to tell me anything but she broke the rules because she felt I needed to know," Araneae replied.

"Damn. thats just," Gekko trailed off.

"I know," Araneae replied. "I think my therapist Leah has a journal or something with things I said I remembered or something but I wasn't allowed to see it. I shoulda went and stole it before leaving Omega Earth." Araneae said thinking out loud.

"Maybe next time we go to Omega Earth you and I can sneak off and find it?" Gekko suggests walking ahead of the girl to open the door for her.

"Such a gentleman," Araneae compliments, putting her hand over her heart jokingly as she walks through the door.  "But as much as I would love to have that journal, ain't no way in hell I'm voluntarily going any where near Kingdom."

"I'll just go get the book for you then," Gekko replies walking in behind her.

"Don't go putting yourself in any danger for me," Araneae replied.

Gekko had bought boba for himself and Wings as well as buying Araneae's drink.  After getting their order, they went outside to the shaded tables in between the boba shop and the bakery next door.

"I kinda want to go to the bakery and see if they have anything I want," Araneae states.

"Sure," Gekko happily responds. "I'll buy you the whole store if that's what you want," Gekko jokes.

Walking back to base, Gekko and Araneae chatted about anything and everything that came to mind. Both occasionally flirting but playing it off as jokes.

"Movies in my room?" Araneae asks as Gekko once again walked ahead to open the door for Araneae.

"Yea sure," Gekko replies smiling.

"Thanks pretty boy," Araneae replies walking through the door Gekko was holding open for her.

"Anything for you princesa," Gekko jokes back.
