Once the group is all together, Beetee begins speaking.
"Where do the others feel safest? The jungle?" He asks.
"The jungle's a nightmare," Johanna says.
"Yeah, there's no way I'd feel safe in there," Lilith agrees. She doesn't feel safe anywhere in the arena, but the jungle is probably where she feels the least safe.
There's silence for a moment before Peeta says, "Probably here on the beach."
"Then why are they not here?" Beetee asks.
"Because we are. We claimed it," Johanna shoots back. Lilith can tell her friend is not amused with Beetee's pointless questions.
"And if we left, they would come?" Beetee asks?
"Or stay hidden in the tree line," Finnick comments.
"Which, in just over four hours will be soaked with water from the 10:00 wave," Beetee says. Lilith wonders what he's getting at. "What happens at midnight?"
"Lighting strikes that tree," Katniss answers.
"Here's what I propose: we leave the beach at dusk, we head to the lighting tree. That should draw them back to the beach. Prior to midnight, we then run this wire from the tree to the water. Anyone in the water or on the damp sand, will be electrocuted," Beetee explains.
Lilith stares at the damp sand beneath her feet. Taking in his proposed plan.
"How do we know the wire's not gonna burn up?" Johanna asks with a skeptical voice.
"Because I invented it," Beetee shoots back. "I assure you, it won't burn up.
Lilith looks between Finnick and Johanna. They give each other knowing looks. This is the plan. This is what gets them out of the arena. This is their ticket to freedom. Lilith feels a smirk tug on her lips lightly as she looks at Finnick. They're gonna make it.
"Well, it's better than hunting them down," Johanna says, breaking the silence.
Lilith looks at Katniss, who is eyeing her, Johanna, and Finnick skeptically.
"Yeah, why not? If it fails, no harm done anyway, right?" Katniss blurts out. She clearly is beginning to suspect something. Lilith hopes Katniss doesn't go rogue after everything they've done to protect her.
"Alright, I say we try it," Peeta shrugs his shoulders. "So, what can we do to help?"
"Keep me alive for the next six hours," Beetee says honestly. "That would be extremely helpful."
As the hours pass, there is nothing to do but wait. Johanna and Beetee discuss details of the plan. Katniss and Peeta sit on the stand together. Lilith stands by Finnick as she watches him swing his trident around. She smiles warmly as she looks at him. Finnick sees her watching him, and flicked water at her face.
"Hey!" She playfully scolds him, wiping the water out of her face. Finnick just laughs at her reaction. "You're not funny," Lilith says with a laugh of her own.
"Your laugh says otherwise," Finnick points out.
Lilith just smiles at him, shaking her head. She really does care for him. Now, with Silas gone, she can't lose Finnick too. It would be too much to handle.
"Hey, it's gonna work," Finnick assures her, seeing the worry in her features.
"I'm just scared. Now more than ever," Lilith admits, her smile dropping.
"Don't be scared. Everything is going to go as planned," Finnick assures her once more, stepping closer to her.
They're not so close that Lilith has to tilt her head up slightly to look at Finnick's face.
"It'll be okay," Finnick says with a soft smile.
"Okay," Lilith says while nodding her head.
"Alright, lovebirds!" Johanna yells. Lilith turns her head to look at her friend. "You too!" Johanna points at her friends. Lilith laughs softly and her and Finnick make their way out of the waves. It was time to begin Beetee's plan.
