Haymitch suggests that Finnick go and visit Lilith again. He tells Finnick that Lilith has gotten better, and she would really like it if he came to see her.
"I don't know, Haymitch," Finnick says. "What if I cause her to flip out?"
"Finnick, she's been asking about you. She knows you didn't leave her behind. She'll be glad that you came," Haymitch tries to convince him.
"Okay," Finnick finally agrees. "I'll go with you."
Haymitch and Finnick head to Lilith's room, blissfully unaware of what they are going to walk into.
When they arrive to Lilith's room in the morning, they had no idea about what had gone on during the night. So, they're both caught off guard by Lilith's cold demeanor and snarky attitude.
"Morning, sweetheart," Haymitch greets her just like he has every morning he's visited her.
Instead of saying anything to acknowledge his presence, she stays silent, staring at the wall in front of her.
"Okay, someone's grumpy," Haymitch tries to joke. Still, Lilith stays silent. Haymitch sighs. "I brought someone with me."
Finnick emerges from behind Haymitch and looks at Lilith. Aside from physically looking better, Finnick doesn't see much of a change in her behavior. He begins to think Haymitch has lied to him, and she hasn't gotten any better.
Lilith turns her head to look at Haymitch and Finnick. She makes eye contact with Finnick, and she begins to mumble to herself.
"What was that?" Haymitch says, trying to get Lilith to speak up.
"Traitor," She says a little louder.
Finnick looks over at Haymitch, his suspicions that he has just been lied to grow.
"Now, Lilith, we've gone over this," Haymitch gets closer to Lilith. "What happened?"
"I've come to my senses, that's what happened," Lilith snaps.
"Lilith, please," Finnick begs.
This seems to get through to Lilith slightly. She stares at Finnick, her eyes softening slightly. All of the facts are still jumbled in her head, but as she's staring into his eyes, she feels like her old self.
"Finnick," Lilith murmurs. Her head is telling her to yell and scream until they both leave. But there's something else, her heart. It's telling her to hear him out. And this time, she actually considers listening to it. "I just, I thought—"
"I know, and I'm sorry," Finnick quickly says, feeling as though he could lose this opportunity to get through to her. "I tried to hard to get you back."
"Everything is so confusing," Lilith mutters, putting her head in her hands.
Finnick rushes to his girl and gently takes her hands in his, pulling them away from her face. He puts a finger under her chin, tilting it up to make her look at him. "Lil?"
Lilith raises her eyes and looks at Finnick. She remembers the first time she got lost into his eyes, and she'll gladly do it over and over again. She glances down at his hands. His fingers look raw, the act of tying and untying knots with a short piece of rope has caught up to him.
"I have something for you," Finnick murmurs before releasing Lilith's hands and digging into his pocket. He pulls out the silver lotus ring on a chain and hands it to Lilith. "I found this on the ground in the arena. I kept it because I knew I'd see you again."
Lilith stares at the necklace, overcome with emotion. Just thinking about the time Silas gave it to her makes her heart clench. "Finnick..."
He helps her put it on, clasping the chain around her neck. Lilith brings her hand up to the ring and holds it between her fingers.
"I'll leave you two alone," Haymitch says quietly, a soft and knowing smile on his face as he exits the room.
"I'm gonna get you out of here. I promise," Finnick says.
Lilith looks up at him and feels a genuine smile forming on her face. With Finnick and this small piece of Silas by her side, she feels as though she can finally be okay.
Finnick looks at her like she's the best prize in the whole world. If being apart of the Hunger Games led him to her, then he was grateful it happened.
