Mihir’s POV

Walking into Gautam uncle's office, I braced myself for the inevitable confrontation. The tension in the air was palpable, and I knew this meeting could determine my future with Tami and my position at the hospital.

He sat behind his massive desk, a stern expression etched on his face. He didn't bother with pleasantries. "Dr. Shah, sit down."

Dr Shah?? He is going to be a devil an angry devil.

I took a seat, trying to remain composed and as formal as he was "Yes, Dr. Jindal?"

He leaned forward, his eyes piercing. "I want you to resign, Dr Shah. Effective immediately." He said.

The words hit me like a punch to the gut. Resign? No way. I had to be here, close to Tami. I couldn’t abandon her, not now, not ever. "Resign? Why? "

" You don't know why?" He asked glaring at me. I felt as if I was standing in front of my principal.

" But it is a personal matter.... "

" This matter as well as the hospital belongs to me, so it is personal." He said firmly.

" I’m not resigning," I replied firmly. "You can’t force me out."

His eyes narrowed. "I can and I will. Tami needs to be away from you. She needs peace, especially in her condition." He said.

"I know I’ve hurt her, and I’m sorry. But I’m not leaving. I need to make things right." I said shaking my head.

"Make things right?" he scoffed. "You’ve caused enough damage. My daughter deserves better than a man who doubted her character." He glared at me.

"I was drunk and confused. I don’t doubt her anymore. I love her." I retorted.

His face became red with anger. "Love? Do you call this love? You’ve humiliated her, and shattered her trust. The best thing you can do is walk away, leaving her alone, we will take care of her." He said.

"I can’t do that," I insisted.

"You have no choice." He said.

"I’m under a new contract. You and the board requested me again and again to rejoin. I agreed under specific conditions. And Sir, let me remind you that you included the point that I can work here as long as I want." I said.

"Conditions?" He leaned back, incredulous. "You think you’re in a position to dictate terms?"

"I’m not dictating, Sir, I’m reminding you of our agreement. I can’t be fired easily, and Tami has to work under me as my intern dietician." I said with a smile.

His eyes flashed with rage. "You’re using a contract to stay close to my daughter?"

"I’m using it to protect my right to make amends. I need her to see that I’m serious about our future."

"Future?" He nearly spat the word. "There’s no future for you two. The divorce proceedings are already underway. And I will make sure that she gets rid of you and this time I will find a guy, who would be able to make my daughter smile genuinely. "

"That’s for Tami and I to decide if we want a divorce or not. If she wants a divorce, I’ll respect her decision. But until then, I’m not giving up, Sir. "

Getting up from his chair, he slammed his hands on the desk. "You think you can waltz in here, throw around contracts, and stay close to my daughter? I’ll find a way to get you out, Mihir. Mark my words."

I stood too, matching his intensity. "Sir, please, I don't want to challenge you but, you have been my inspiration and are like my dad to me, but I’m not leaving her. Not until I clear the misunderstanding and still she tells me to my face that she wants me gone." I retorted.

"Fine. But don’t think for a second that this is over. You’ll regret this." He said glaring at me.

The whole day was a blur of tension and dread. I could feel Gautam uncle’s eyes on me everywhere I went, his presence a constant reminder of the battle I was fighting. And amidst all this, the threat of divorce proceedings loomed like a dark cloud.

Despite everything, being able to see Tami at the hospital was a bittersweet blessing. She kept her distance, her eyes cold and guarded. But at least she was here, and I had a chance to show her my sincerity and love for her and our unborn baby.

So I went out and got myself some books about pregnancy like what to expect when you are expecting.

I was coming back to the hospital when my phone buzzed. Gaurvi was calling me. I was not in the mood to talk to her but picked up the call.

" Hello?? "

" Hey! "

" I want you to come and meet me "

" No, I don't want to... "

"  If you want me to help you with her, you got to come and meet me. " She insisted.

" I am coming. Send me the location. " I said.

I reached the location and went in. She was sitting there with Shlok.

" Hey! " She said and I went to them.

" Have a seat. " She said.

" Why have you called me here? "

" To apologize to you. Whatever the situation was, we did wrong to you. " Shlok said all of a sudden.

" Why now?? "

" Because we didn't realize the extent of the damage we caused for you and Tami. So much happened to us out of the blue, things started getting out of our hands, and then facing our parents after I kidnapped her from the wedding. It was not Gauravi's fault ....... " He explained everything.

" I am really sorry, Mihir, we created so much havoc in your lives. But I really could not let her marry you, I hope, at least, now you can understand how I was feeling at that time. Gaurvi didn't want to leave like this without talking to her dad and you, but she fainted and I panicked... I picked her up and took her with me. " Shlok said.

" It's okay, but why are you telling me all this? That chapter is over, now. I don't have any emotions for her, I am not in love with her, she is Tami's sister."

" She is your friend as well.  "

" I am sorry, I don't think that we can be friends again. "
