The door opened a little then it swung wide open. A tall black-haired, stern looking witch with green robes stood there. I do not want to cross that person. No way she looks to stern.

"Firs' years Professor McGonagall," said Hagrid

"Thank you," she said "I'll take them."

The Entrance Hall itself was huge. So big infact, you can fit the Dursleys house and their neighbour's house inside it. Inside they had torches that lit the way, just like Gringotts. We were led into an empty chamber near the doors on our right. I could hear a low buzz of talking. I guess that's the school. We were really crowded. The room was quite small, not what I expected but oh well.

"Welcome to Hogwarts," said Professor McGongall "Now, in a few moments, you will enter the Great Hall and join your class mates but first you have to be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Now while you're here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points and any rule breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points will be awarded the house cup. The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily."

She left us.

"Okay now I'm not excited," I breathed "Just very very nervous."

"Do you know how exactly they sort us?" asked Harry

"Fred says its some kind of tests..."said Ron, his voice trailing off

I was about to ask Ron what sort of tests but Professor McGonagall returned, and silence fell immediately.

"We are ready for you now," she said with a slight smile

She led us into the Great Hall. Now in there, you could fit hundreds of Muggle Houses here, plus all Dudley's toys. But inside were floating candles and four long tables. At the very back there was a fifth table, for the teachers. I glanced up at the ceiling but instead I was staring at a stormy sky. As we walked along, I passed George, accidently brushing against him.

"It's bewitched to look like the night sky," said Hermione from behind me "I read it in Hogwarts: A History."

It was a long walk. Finally we reached the end of the hall and silence fell again. So much that you could've heard a pin drop. Professor McGonagall put a four-legged stool in front of us and a old and dirty hat on it. It had a wide rip near the brim. What do we have to do? Now I'm panicking! Everyone was staring at the hat. Waiting for something. The rip near the brim was like a mouth and then the hat...the hat started to sing:

I am the Hogwarts Sorting Hat,

Don't judge on what you see,

For I can tell where you belong,

Where you ought to be,

So will you go to Gryffindor,

Where bravery is always there

Or will you join Hufflepuff,

For they are loyal and fair,

Perhaps you'll go to Ravenclaw,

They are ready to learn,

Maybe you belong in Slytherin,

If friends are what you yearn,

Take a seat and put me on,

Don't be scared or shy,

I'll tell you where to go,

And I will never lie!

The school clapped loudly and the hat did a little bow. I clapped along with them, smiling happily. I never knew a hat would come up with a brilliant song like that!
