"Hey Grian?"
Not looking up from the sand he's shoveling, Grian asks absently, "What's up?" He's got a lot of sand to collect before he can work on his next project, and he's very deliberately not letting himself goof off and be all scatterbrained right now. His attention span has gotten much shorter than it used to be, living with normal sapients who measure projects by hours instead of months, and with his own attention span already having been on the low end for Watchers, he does not need whatever big enchanting project he tries next to get dropped halfway through because he got bored.
"So I was talking to Scott recently," Scar starts, "and he said he was gonna host an unofficial MCC next week."
"Oh? Sounds like fun. You planning to go?"
"Yeah! Apparently it's to help people unwind after all the stress from being somewhere with so many Watchers. None of us could stand up and fight, so apparently everyone just got really stressed out wondering if Minecraft's portal would get found."
"I see." He shoves down the impulsive desire to abandon his sand gathering in favor of immediately signing up. No. He can sign up, but only after he finishes this. "Do you know when sign-ups close?"
Scar leans forward excitedly. "You wanna go?! Yeah! Scott said we should be good as long as we confirm three days early, since it's an unofficial one."
He shoves Scar off the shulker the wizard had sat on, dumping his sand into it. "Sounds like fun, so yeah, I'm interested. I'm gonna finish this up first though. Shouldn't take me more than a couple hours."
"Aww, okay..." Scar crosses his legs, watching him work. "Scott said he wasn't sure you'd want to come, since last time he brought it up you said you didn't feel like it. Why'd you say no back then?"
"Mmm? Oh, that. I just don't like to get in a lot of PVP situations is all."
"Huh? But you're great at fighting!"
"Yup. That's the problem." He leans on his shovel, taking a tiny break to help Scar understand how he sees it. "Either I dominate at fighting, or I have to deliberately make amateur mistakes to blend in." Brief check... No one's in earshot, good. "I don't want to make this unfair for everyone. It all feels like play-fighting to me, but to everyone else? It's a serious competition. They're all trying for first, and it's not fair to put them up against something like me when I don't really care about winning."
"Oh..."
"I've got no problems joining if it's just for fun though. My reservations are based in messing up the official rankings and stealing someone's thunder. If Scott's serious when he says it's unofficial and won't mess with the rankings, I'd love to participate."
"So that means..."
He smiles. "Yes, I'll play. Now shoo, I'm actually trying to buckle down and get the grindy work done for once."
"Okay! See you later!"
Scar flies off, leaving him to his boring, necessary sand digging. Sigh... No time like the present...

As an avian, Grian was told a couple basic rules to keep in mind regarding how flying is to be handled. It's less strict since this is an unofficial event, but he's still been asked to keep the flying to a minimum.
Makes sense. That's why he doesn't let himself fly on the Life series. When no one else can fly, it's just a complete and utter jerk move to allow himself that kind of absurd advantage.
