"So?" Jace asked, extending his hand with a sly smile. "What do you say? Do we have ourselves a deal?"
Daisuke remained silent.
Bendova, however, let out a snicker. "I'd say his answer is as clear as day, wouldn't you agree?"
Jace seethed, his face flushing with anger. "Don't be a fool! Given the circumstances, what other choice do you think you have? Step forward and accept my offer!"
Daisuke held his ground.
Several members of the crowd couldn't help but stifle their laughter at Daisuke's brazen dismissal of the man, and the captain's face flushed with rage. The humiliation of being so openly disregarded in front of so many witnesses was enough to shatter his composure completely. Fueled by his wounded pride, he cast aside his mission, driven solely now by the desperate need to restore his tarnished honor.
[ChillDude88: This Haxks guy isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, huh? No matter how many flashy skills he's got, there's no way he can take on that many players at once.
LootQueen: Especially in that pathetic gear.
Player1: He's totally screwed. That guy's just lost it.
NoobHunter: Maybe he wasn't all that special after all.
GamerNerd101: May the non-existent gods take pity on his soul.]
"You imbecile! You think you can just brush me off like that?" Jace barked, his voice dripping with contempt. "You may have bested a few Field Bosses, but don't forget who you're dealing with. I'm not just some low-level scrub; I'm the fifth captain of the Dragonsbane Guild, goddammit!"
[SlayerX: Oh snap! Bro's completely lost his shit! He's even declared his guild without thinking.]
The fuming captain paused, his gaze piercing as he surveyed the crowd, gauging their reactions, daring another soul to laugh. Sensing their hesitation, he turned back to Daisuke, his grin morphing into a sneer. "You've embarrassed me in front of all these people. That won't stand. I'll make you regret turning down my offer."
With a snap of his fingers, the mercenaries immediately surged forward like a dark cloud, their weapons drawn, eyes gleaming with the thrill of the impending fight. Daisuke felt the weight of their collective malice pressing down on him, but he remained unfazed, a dark aura swirling around him as he slowly lifted his gaze.
FLASH!
The Eye of Verity, charged with the Intimidate skill, sent a bitter chill rippling across the battlefield. It was enough to make the onlookers instinctively take a step back in fear, but the mercenaries faltered for but a microsecond.
But that brief moment of hesitation was enough to seal their fates. Daisuke swept past them like an eerie whisper—a graceful dance of precision and death unraveling as his daggers took flight. In moments, the mercenaries crumpled to the ground, heads separated from their bodies before they could even react.
A stunned silence hung heavy in the air as everyone grappled with the scene before them. As blood rained down upon those who still drew breath, Daisuke turned the weight of his golden gaze upon two others. His body shifted ominously as he squared his shoulders, his daggers stained crimson.
"M-Monster!" Bendova shrieked, spinning around and fleeing like a self-aware pig about to be slaughtered. "What are you all waiting for?" he barked at his guildmates who stood frozen in terror. "Attack him!"
The first to answer the call was the guild's Vice-Guildmaster.
