Part 71: Science v Science

Ryusui chuckled as he looked at the blood stained arrow. "Excellent work y/n. I knew we could count on your skills."

"Thanks. It was risky as I didn't actually know where he was but I was able to nick him. So at the very least, the enemy knows we won't go down without a fight," y/n said.

Ryusui smirked as y/n lightly grunted, causing her to hunch over as she rubbed her stomach. Rysui put the arrow down and grabbed her arm to help support her.

"You okay," Ryusui asked.

"I'm fine," y/n said before taking a breath. "Just this pregnancy is kissing my ass."

"You should rest. You've done enough for a while," Ryusui said, ready to help guide her to the bunks

"Thanks Ryusui but there's something I have to do first," y/n said, grabbing the arrow. "If you don't mind."

Ryusui nodded his head and helped her walk to the main room. He opens the door and Francois looks over with Luna, Akira and Yuzuriha. Ryusui jerked his head to his side, which Francois and Akira immediately understood.

"Um, I think we've earned a break ladies. Y/n, mind watching our patient as we go to lunch," Akira asked.

"Sure thing Mom," y/n said, keeping the arrow behind her so Luna doesn't see.

With that, Akira and Francois walk out. Luna was a bit hesitant as she didn't think leaving Senku was a good idea but Yuzuriha reassured her that it would be okay. So with that, they join the grown ups and Ryusui closes the door, giving them privacy. When the door closed, y/n walked over to Senku, pulling up a chair and looking over at him, just laying there. She takes a breath before holding up the arrow.

"If it makes you feel better, I was able to hit your shooter. So you won't die in vain," y/n said in a soft tone.

Senku softly chucked as he was still pretty weak. "I appreciate you avenging me. Now I can rest at peace."

"Yeah...How are you feeling," y/n asked.

"Dead. I mean, I'll live but I feel dead," Senku said.

A slight smile grew on her face for a moment before she looked down. "Why did you do it?"

"Huh," Senku said, confused as he couldn't hear her mumble.

"Why did you leave yourself alone--Out in the open," y/n asked in a clearer tone. "I could have protected you. Or Taiju could have. Why did you leave?"

"Isn't it obvious," Senku asked as he moved his head slightly to look at her despite it hurting him a bit. "I couldn't risk that sniper to hit anyone else...I couldn't risk them hitting you."

"I could have handled it," y/n said.

"Maybe. Maybe not. Y/n...you're pregnant and you didn't know where the sniper was for certain to get a clean hit. I couldn't risk it," Senku said.

"So you put yourself on the line for the baby," y/n asked.

"No... I know this is gonna sound harsh but I don't care about some baby I haven't met yet. I care about you. And I made a vow to myself," Senku admitted.

"And what is that," y/n asked.

"That as long as I live, I won't let another bastard hurt you. I nearly lost you to Hyoga...I...I won't live through that again," Senku said.

Y/n looked down to the bloodstained arrow and clenched it in her hand. "And you think I'd be okay seeing you like this?"

"No...But you already nearly died once so now it was my turn," Senku said, trying to be funny.

Y/n lightly scoffed in amusement. "Seriously? We're taking turns now?"

"Not exactly but you nearly died once and now I have too. So now we're even," Senku said.
