the other half thrown off

all the blankets kicked off
smiling quietly
2:00 am or so
texting in the dark
eyelids drooping
getting ready to say goodnight
getting ready for school tomorrow
turning off my music
tossing my old earbuds off the bed
unplugging my phone by yanking the cord
3:00 am or so
I text goodnight
flip the pillow over
rearrange the blankets
smile at your last text
send a heart
switch my phone off
set my alarm
4:00 am or so
i can't sleep
send you a text
you reply
three words in your reply
like the text I sent
i smile
warmth fills my heart
roll back over
pull the blankets up to my chin
and let the warmth consume me
