Not What I Thought

(this one was written when that same boy (Don) told me that he had a girlfriend the whole time. He led me on and it hurt.)

These butterflies have died away,

the sky returning to dusty gray.

Just when I thought

the rain was gone,

my heart now bellows

a solemn song.

Just when I thought

I was worth something,

you go and put my heart on clearance.

You build me up to touch the sky,

only content to watch me free-fall.

I thought that you could be the one,

but I was blinded by feelings

that I was fooled to think existed.

The fire that warmed up my heart,

just burned me in the end.

Do you think he'd even miss me

if my life took a fatal bend?

Just when I thought

I was worth something,

you go and put my heart on clearance.

You build me up to touch the sky,

only content to watch me free-fall.

I thought that you could be the one,

but I was blinded by feelings

that I was fooled to think existed.

I caused this,

that much I can see.

Because I had my heart,

where my brain should be.

If I could erase my mistakes I would,

but this time the blame's on me.

The fire that warmed up my heart,

just burned me in the end.

Do you think he'd even miss me

if my life took a fatal bend?
