Chapter Twenty-Six // {daryl's pov}

Jordan hasn't moved since last night. No one has spoken to her since last night. I tried approaching her but she was sorta unresponsive.
I came back from hunting and saw Rick sitting against the car, alone. He hadn't cleaned up. The blood had dried around his mouth.
I walked over and poured some water on an old rag that I had.
"We should save it to drink," he spoke up, looking up at me. I shook my head.
"Ye can't see yourself, he can," I said referring to Carl. He took it from me and attempted to clean himself up.
"I didn't know what they were," I explained, sitting down next to Rick. He gave me a short nod.
"I know. How'd you wind up with them anyway?" he asked watching me carefully.
"I was with Beth," I answered, thinking back to how the car took her away, "we got out together. I was with 'er for awhile."
"...Is she dead?" Rick asked looking doubtful.
"She's just gone," I replied with zero emotion, "after that, that's when they found me. I mean, I knew they were bad, but they had a code. It was simple. Stupid, but it was somethin'. It was enough."
I took a deep breath in.
"They said they were lookin' for some guy. Last night they said they spotted 'im. I was hangin' back. I was gonna leave. That's when I saw it was ye three. Right when ye saw me. I didn't know what they could do," I finished.
"It's not on you, Daryl. Hey. It's not on you. You being back with us here, now, that's everything," Rick assured before adding the one thing that made me happy that I was back, "you're my brother."
Jordan came up into my mind. I knew she was still where she was.
I spoke in a hushed tone, "Jordan needs ye." This perked Rick's interest and his stare turned into regret.
"It was my fault that what happened to her, happened. I'll never forgive myself for that and seeing her flinch away from you -- seeing her broken, I couldn't... I couldn't," he tried to explain. Rick glanced over to the other side of the car. He seemed just as broken as she was.
"Rick, it's not on ye," I repeated what he had just told me. He looked up at me. Sadness filled his eyes.
"Go see 'er," I whispered. He nodded and stood up.

I stared at the man's ruined body. I frowned and wrapped my arms tighter around my body.
I did not sleep at all last night. I felt as if someone else might come during the night and hurt our already broken group.
"Jordan?" Rick's voice greeted from beside me, startling me a little. I glanced up at the man who left me alone last night. He sat down beside me.
He left a gap between us. He respected that I wanted to be away from people.
"Are you okay?" my small voice asked the man next to me. He chuckled.
"Nothing's okay right now," he spoke quietly. I felt my eyes water again. I didn't think I had any tears left...
"You won't be for awhile. I won't be. Carl isn't. But we'll pull through. We always do," he tried to speak with confidence. A few tears slipped down my cheeks.
His rough hand softly grabbed mine. I didn't flinch away this time -- I felt safer near him. I scooted over to be right next to him. My head leaned into his shoulder.
"We'll pull through... Together, right? You and I?" I questioned with uncertainty.
"We always do," he repeated, staring ahead.
