Behind The Just-Chipped Smile

Well gosh it's almost 6 P.M.

I haven't got a clue

of where to go now that it's done,

I don't know what to do.

Before I left I didn't know

of hardship or of pain

but now I have my smile;

like life's permanent stain.

I've sat and sulked around my home

afraid it'll come back;

the war I left across the sea

just waiting to attack.

Now I'll try my very best

to fake a joyful grin;

though my eyes have now beheld

the worst of mankind's sin.

Just look behind my smile, empty,

like an abandoned grave,

waiting for me to return

the life I almost gave.
