i need words

words that speak volumes

and leave a pleasant taste on my tongue

words that toll like bells

on a frigid sunday afternoon

words with a grandmothers hands

and words that bring calm

into a world where banners burn

words that evoke the stars

with their magnitude and ways

words without embellishment

just words

words like genocide and hate and war

words so heavy and so full

with intent

but words followed by deluges

of warmth and love and peace

and words that never grow numb

words that just are

words like humanity

words that translate through

embraces and affection

words that may only be learned

by the love of a friend

or the kiss of a stranger

not textbooks

not stories

but by truths

and by laughs

we all need those words
