Carter felt her face heat up as she read Malia's message, along a strange sensation in her stomach.

"Who are you texting?" Carter looked over as her older brother, Michael, sat next to her on the couch, slinging an arm around her shoulder.

"My friend Malia, why?" She sighed, resting her head on his shoulder. Michael lived in Nevada with his wife Amanda, and they were already expecting their second kid.

"Must be some friend." He winked at her, the girl just rolling her eyes in return. "I'm serious, you had this stupid grin on your face."

"Okay, I get the same look when I read fan fiction." Carter snorted, looking down at her phone again as it buzzed.

@maliatate: we're having a huge sleepover rn and it's ship city

@maliatate: cisaac is watching netflix on cather's iPad, Kiam is taking selfies, scaria is probably having sex rn, and stydia is fighting over movies

"There it is again." Michael poked her face, earning himself a harsh glare. "Alright, you know how you would tease me about how I looked when I was talking to Mandy?"

"Like a lovestruck loser?"

"Well, that's exactly how you look right now." He whispered, messing up her hair before pushing himself off the couch. "And whether you realize it or not, Malia is totally flirting with you."

With those final words he walked off to find his wife, leaving Carter utterly confused.

Yeah, they were flirting, but it was only to mess with their friends.
