An Unexpected Surprise (Riko x Kagami)

Things went unplanned last night. Riko decided to go over Kagami's house to tutor him, making sure that he passed his finals in order to be able to play basketball. It was simple, they both sat in his room across from each other, Riko teaching him the basics of the Pythagorean Theorem. Kagami clutched his hair and rolled his eyes back, not understanding a word that was coming out of her mouth.

"Listen here Bakagami!"

"O-oye!"

She marched over to his side and plopped herself next to him, forcing his head down onto his paper as she explained the procedure for the tenth time.

"Look, all you do is take the sides and fill them in for A squared and B squarred, set them equal to C squared-"

Kagami zoned out again once he realized how close Riko was to him. He could smell her shampoo in her hair and feel her shoulder snug against his. His heart began to race, calm down, what're you doing Taiga?

When Riko finished explaining, she got up to return to her spot when Kagami grabbed her arm.

"Wait, coach, stay here. I think I understand it more if you're here." He bit his lip.

"Don't say such stupid things-"

"I'm serious!"

Riko looked down at him, his face showing seriousness after all. She sighed, "fine," and went to sit back down when her leg slipped beneath her and fell right on top of Kagami, knocking him down also.

"Sorry sorry I slipped!!" She exclaimed, rushing to get up.

Kagami didn't say anything but instead held her onto him. Riko's faced turned a hundred shades of pink as she looked at him. Both of their hearts began to race.

"Kagami.. what are you.." She said.

"Just.. stay here."

After a while, the lights were dimmed and Riko stayed the night that night.

A few months later, Riko began to feel sick. She'd often leave practice early to go to the doctor, leaving practice in the hands of Hyuuga.

"I hope coach is okay." Hyuuga said at the end of a practice.

"Me too." Kagami muttered, scratching his head.

The next day before practice, Riko showed. Her face was a bit pale looking.

"Coach! How are you feeling?" Her team asked her, nearing her.

"Oh don't mind me, I'm feeling great! But Kagami-kun, I need to talk to you for a second.. having to do with your grades."

Aw man! Kagami thought.

"Coach I know I studied hard this time! I didn't slack off-"

"It's okay, I'm not chiding you about your grades." She said once they were alone.

"But you said-"

"Kagami-kun, the reason I've been in the hospital often is because... uhmm.."

"Coach... are you dying?!"

"I'm not dying you idiot!!" She snapped at him.

"Oh, okay good! Then what is it?" Kagami chuckled slightly.

"Kagami-kun... I'm three months pregnant with your child."

Kagami's eyes suddenly went wide. His breathing stopped as he looked at Riko.

For real?

"Really?" He said softly.

She nodded, tears forming in her eyes. She lifted her sleeve to rub them but Kagami beat her to it.

"I was afraid of telling you, I thought you were gonna leave us, I even thought you weren't gonna let me have it and I panicked-"

"Shhh, listen. I'm not gonna do that to you. Besides.. I am the dad after all." He grinned brightly. "I'll never leave your side. I'll be here all the way for you and the baby, ok?"

Riko smiled and hugged him. He was surprised at this sudden hug from her, but he hugged back.

"Umm, by the way Kagami." Riko said when she let go of him.

"What?"

"We're gonna have to tell my dad... "

Kagami's heart stopped.

Oh shite.

"Hey! What's taking so long? Are we doing practice or what?" Izuki called out.

Kagami and Riko exchanged glances, but he assured her that no matter what happens, he'll be there to support and protect her..up until her dad decides to kill him of course.
