"You were with Penelope last night," Gray came up to me in the diner as I was having breakfast with Cecelia.
"You were?" Cecelia questioned. "I thought your mom needed you home to talk about your dad."
"She did," I glanced up at Gray and gave him a death stare for being such an ass.
"Don't lie, Zack. I just happened to see your car and I just happened to follow you to her house." He snapped, making me rethink my lie.
"Why didn't you just tell me the truth?" Cecelia said, not sounding as mad as Gray was.
"Because I was afraid that you would think that I'm cheating on you with her but she's just a friend." I said clearly so Gray could understand as well.
"I don't buy it," Gray glared at me, "why did you blow us off?"
I sighed, getting annoyed at this twenty question game he was playing. "She's going through some stuff so I helped her through it."
Cecelia moved over so Gray could take a seat next to her, his face stayed the same as did Cecelia's. "And that is why I like you so much. You always help others around you. Gray, don't be so hard on him. He's just a kindhearted guy."
I was chuffed that Cecelia thought that about me and hopefully Gray would give me a break. "Okay, I'm sorry for being so rough on you. I just didn't want Cecelia going through what I went though."
I knew that was the reason. Now I felt more relaxed. My phone buzzed in my pocket and I quickly checked it, it was from Penelope and she sent me the details of the rodeo that was happening tonight. "Do you guys wanna go to a rode tonight? It's in town."
Cecelia beamed and nodded. "I love rodeos!"
Gray smiled and nodded as well. Then that was settled, they know I was friends with Penelope and I was glad I got to meet some of her friends as well.
Things were beginning to work out after all.

"So, what kind of things do you wear at a rodeo?" Gray asked me as he walked into my bedroom unannounced.
"I don't know, the type of clothes you wear over your skin." I said, looking at my phone and texting Penelope
"I'm looking forward to meeting your friends, we'll be at the rodeo at seven." I texted her happily.
"We?" She texted back.
"I invited Cecelia and Gray, is that okay?" I replied.
"Of course, it's for everybody."
"Zack?" Gray snapped his fingers as I shut my phone off. "Don't get all sarcastic with me."
I chuckled, missing his remarks so badly. "Just wear normal clothes. Jeans and a t-shirt. Now you sound like a girl."
We both laughed and then my phone bleeped again. "See you tonight!"
I smiled at her text and replied so fast my fingers might've fallen off. I shut it off and turned to Gray who just stared at me. "Texting Cecelia?"
I nodded, lying again. "Yeah, I am. Just letting her know that we'll be leaving soon."
You'll get caught one day. Gray nodded, swinging his car keys around his finger. "Your car or mine?"
"Mine." I said quickly, I felt more in control when I drove and plus, Gray was a slow driver.
"Fine," Gray sighed and placed his keys away and we headed downstairs, say goodbye to my mom and left to go to this rodeo.
And Gray had no idea whose idea this really was.
