Chapter 6

Parents

"I think we should head back inside." He suddenly spoke, breaking the silence.

"Nah, you go first. I'd rather be here." I said as my thoughts and gazes continued to wander to the moon.

"I can stay if you want company."

"I don't need company. I can suit myself." I said. He gave me a nod before turning around and walking away.

Millions of stars filled the night sky like a canvas. My neck would probably hurt soon as I keep on craning it to look up.

"Woah! I see a blonde!" Someone immediately spoke behind me. When I recognized the voice, I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

"Why are you here?!" I asked him in a stern tone as I turned to look at him. He chuckled.

"Are you still mad about what I said earlier?" It was irritating the way he said it. "I swear!" He said while holding up his right hand, acting like he is swearing.

"Swear what?!"

"That you look beautiful, tonight." He said. Even as my gazes flashed aggressively toward him, my heart was pounding.

"Just tonight." I mocked his words.

He let out a good chuckle and was never spoke. He smirked devilishly at me before casting his eyes upward in the direction of the moon.

Half of his face was basked with the moon's luminance and I couldn't help but look at him. His pink hair is softly blown by the winds of the night.

"What a small world, huh." He muttered something. I feigned to check out the scenery so he wouldn't know I was gazing at his face.

"What do you mean?" I asked. Dumbfounded.

"You know, we met here. Truly a small world."

"We even meet at school, what the hell are you saying?" I said, I know I sound dumb, but that I was merely mimicking him and his dry jokes.

He stared at me in what seemed to be both amazement and amusement. I rolled my eyes at him.

After a few seconds, he spoke, "You're Jude Heartfilia's daughter?"

"Yeah, only daughter." I said.

"That must be cool, to have all the inheritance." He chuckled lightly.

"Why? Do you have a brother?" I asked, but I really hope I didn't come out as interested to him in the slightest. He might think the wrong thing.

"Yeah, a half-brother." He responded. I nodded at him.

"Why? Do you want to have all the inheritance?" I chuckled.

"Nah, not really. Although I am my father's favorite son, I'm just kind of jealous of my brother."

He captured my gazes. I'm curious now.

"What?" When he noticed that I was looking at him, he gave me a playful smirk.

"I was about to say something but never mind."

"Why? Are you going to say that I charmed you? Awe, don't be shy, Luce." He teased again. I inhaled. Apparently, Lucy. You need a lot of patience to deal this guy.

"Can you shut up." I muttered.

"Make me, then." He giggled. I stared at him intently until he burst out laughing. "You're a little too cute, Luce." He murmured.

"What?"

"Nothing, nothing." He shook his head while smiling.

We stayed silent for a while, letting the evening ambiance sink into us. Letting the winds whisper in our ears and letting the moon gaze upon us.

"You know what, I'm introducing you to dad and mum." He suddenly said and with that, his fingers entangled in mine, he beckoned me to come closer. I gave him a puzzled look.

"Now?!" I said, surprised! As far as I can remember his parents want him for someone else! Is he this confident now?!

"Yes, Heartfilia." He said. He started walking towards the gates that will lead us inside dragging me with him.

"Hey, hey, hey, what should I do?!" I asked, I'm freaking out! It's his parents!

My eyes were greeted by the warm lights from the chandelier. The muffled voices of the crowd started to become clear as we walk inside the huge venues. I looked around, afraid, that my parents my recognize me holding hands with someone!

"Just be the pretty girl you are." He murmured. I could feel my face heating up. I don't know if that was an insult or what!

"What the hell?" I said. Before I can say something, Natsu stopped in front two middle aged couple. And since he is holding my hand, I was abruptly stopped too.

"Mom, dad." He called the couple in front of us. My eyes widened. These are his parents!

Should I run? Walk away? Dash through the door? I am not ready for this! I haven't rehearsed what I am supposed to say to his parents!

"Yes, my dear?" the woman in his mid-forties looked at us, she caught a sight of me and flashed a small smile.

"This is Lucy Heartfilia. My girlfriend." He said without any glimpse of hesitation and nervousness.

I can feel my entire world freezing. The surprise on his parent's faces was plain to see. I saw his mother blinked four times. While his father just looked at us in the eyes.

"Uh, w-what do you mean, my d-dear?" His mother was incapable of even producing the correct phrases. We are all taken aback by this. We are all shocked! What should I even say?!

"I am dating Lucy Heartfilia mom." Natsu firmly said When I looked at him, I was surprised to see how serious he appeared. As if this whole situation is real!

The expression on his father's face was one of unrelenting seriousness and stoicism, and I am gravely intimidated. I noticed how Natsu got his pink hair and tanned skin from his father. His mother has a calmer features and demeanor.

His mom forced a smile and looked at me, "I am very pleased to meet you, my dear... Heartfilia?"

I gave her a nervous smile and a nod. I could feel a shift in her aura, but the surprise is still visible on her face.

"Heartfilia? Are you perhaps from the Heartfilia clan? Jude and Layla Heartfilia?" his father finally said something!

"Uh, y-yes... sir." I said, unable to find the proper words to say.

I felt Natsu's arms snaking behind my waist, my body stiffened at the gesture. We exchanged glances, and then he winked at me.

"Mom, dad, you are making her nervous." He said. "Everything is still so much for her to handle, please do not intimidate her."

"Oh, I am deeply sorry... Lucy right?" his mom asked. I nodded at her. "I am sorry, dear Lucy. Everything is just shocking. My son here just had a girlfriend before and we just couldn't believe that he has someone new." She was muttering words and I couldn't keep up with most of them. I did little more than nod and force a smile onto my face.

I pressed my lips together to relax myself. I can even feel my palms sweating. They are very intimidating!

His mom sighed, "Welcome to our family, my dear." She finally smiled genuinely.

I am seriously accepted by his family now; they finally know me! They have finally known me as the woman who is dating their son. Things are starting to become serious. Can I still get out of this?!
