Chapter 9 Don't Do It

Madison's POV
I was standing at my locker putting my books in my backpack when my phone rang. The hallway was empty except for me. Everyone else had already left for class. I answered my phone.
Hello. I said.
Is this Madison Burton? A woman's voice that I didn't recognize asked me.
Yeah. I said.
My name is Amanda. I have some bad news. Your parents were in a bad car accident this afternoon....They didn't survive. She said.
I stayed silent the shock of what she had just said sinking in.
W-what? I said. My voice cracked. My parents are dead. I whispered.
I'm sorry for your loss. She said.
Thank you for calling me. I said quietly.
What? Miss. Are you okay?
I hung up not wanting to answer that question. No I'm not okay. I left my backpack. I grabbed my headphones and I left. I pushed in my headphones pressing shuffle and hearing Bring Me To Life by Evanescence playing.
I started walking. I knew where I was going.
How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core
Where I've become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home.
I felt so numb. So much pain yet no feeling at all.

I reached the edge of the cliff. Tears were streaming down my face. I'm done fighting. I'm done being alone.
I give up....
Just as I was about to jump I heard someone yell my name. It was a voice I recognized. Laurence...
Why are you here? I asked not turning to face him.
I came to look for you because you didn't show up for class. He said.
How did you know I would be here? I asked.
I know you love to come to this forest. He said. Now what are you doing?
I stayed silent at first.

Laurence's POV
She stayed silent for a minute. She still wouldn't look at me. But what she said next caught me completely off guard...
I wanted to jump... She said.
You what?! Why?! I asked in complete shock.
I got a call today telling me that my parents died in a car crash...that's why I left school. That's why I'm here.  If they're gone then what reason do I have left to be here? She said.
Madison...I'm sorry about your parents but you can't do this. You've got your whole life ahead of you. I told her.
You don't get it. Do you? She said.
Get what? I asked.
I don't want to have my life ahead of me. I don't want to go to school every day and get bullied by popular girls who think they're better than me. I don't want to go home and wish my parents were still alive and wonder if they even loved me when they were alive. Get it through your head Laurence. I don't want to be alive!!! She yelled finally turning to face me. There were tears streaming down her face. I stood there surprised by what she had said. She stared at him.
Why haven't you just given up on me? She asked quietly.
I stared at her.
( Swearing alert )
Because I care about you. I'll admit I don't know what you're going through but I care about you and I don't want to lose you. I know you feel alone but you aren't. If you can't find a reason to live damn it live for me!.... Please.  I said.
She looked at me then she slowly walked forward and hugged me.
Thank you. She said.
For what? I asked.
For not giving up on me. She said.
I smiled even though she couldn't see it. Anytime. I thought to myself.

Madison's POV
After that we started walking home.
Hey can I ask you a question? I asked him.
Sure. He said.
Why do you care about me so much? I asked. And tell me the truth.
W-well...um I....
I looked over at him and I noticed he was blushing a deep shade of red.
What's wrong? I asked.
He stopped walking and so did I. Then suddenly he stepped forward and kissed me. It was a short soft kiss.
B-because I l-love you. He stuttered.
I could feel myself blushing too.
I-I love you too. I said. 
He smiled and I smiled back at him.
Will you be my girlfriend then? He asked me.
I'd love to. I said smiling.
We walked home together and parted ways to our separate houses. I changed clothes and climbed into my bed. I smiled to myself. I really do love him...
