An awkward situation

"Are you being serious?" I gasped placing my hand over my mouth. "Insanely serious. I get that it may be a bit soon but I want to be happy for once in my life. I'm always angry and miserable. You make me happy. I want to be happy every moment of every day. That's why I'm asking this of you" My eyes left his and moved back down to the two sets of keys and a picture of the home Dean had bought in hope of me moving in with him. It was a huge step, we we're both a mess. "I used all my savings knowing that this was the best decision I would ever make. I love you Cassie. I want to prove to you that I love you" "Dean you didn't have to use all your savings to buy a house to do that, you could have..." "I'd have spent it all on beer and junk anyways. This is just a better investment. An investment in us" I couldn't help but panic inside. I had only heard men talk this serious in movies. Never in my life did I think a man would stand in front of me talking like this and being as serious as Dean was right now. "Are you sure this is what you want?" I asked after a moment hoping he would some how come to his senses. His face didn't change, I knew he was going to be set on this no matter what. I couldn't make such a rashly huge step this soon on, our relationship wasn't stable enough. "Dean..." I tried to find the words. Suddenly I couldn't look him in the eyes. "Yes Cassie?" I exhaled shakily trying to find any way to let him down gently. This was going to go one of two ways. He would either get mad and start being irrational again or he would tell me to get out and that would be it. I couldn't say yes to avoid the inevitable. "This is too soon" I blurted out feeling my heart race. Silence filled the room, it was unbearable. I suddenly felt my eyes move towards his in a sheepish manner like I was scared to see his reaction. He was looking down at the keys in his hand but he didn't look angry. "It's ok" Wait? What?

"I understand. I will be moving in anyway. This key will always be waiting for you when your ready" I couldn't help but smile as relief washed over me. I stood to my feet and stepped in front of him. Lifting his chin with my forefinger I smiled gently at him. "Thank you for understanding" he smiled gently back at me. His cheeks slightly flushed red like he was slightly embarrassed. "I'll take you home" I nodded to agree knowing it was for the best. We still needed space and time. I also really needed my bed.

2 days later

I rushed to the door hearing the knocking become more frantic. Without a second thought I pulled it open but immediately regretted it. "Cassie!" My mom smiled stepping in pulling me into a tight hug. "Mom Dad!?" I tried my bets not to sound confused. "Oh sweety we've missed you, you never answer our calls or reply to your sisters texts..." I pulled out of my moms hug and let her step inside, my dad stepped in after her taking in the surroundings of my not so tidy home. I rushed to pick things up I had left laying around. Since Chloe moved out there was no need to keep things up to standard unless I was expecting someone. Dean never came to see me anymore. "Don't rush about like a headless chicken for us sweety, your entitled to be a bit messy sometimes now Chloe moved out" I froze at those words. "How did you know?" I looked back at my mom and dad then noticed a suitcase. Great, they was planning on staying. I avoided my family like the plague for a reason. I always disappointed them. My mom wants me to get married and has even gone as far as trying to set me up with a would be husband. My dad was kind of the same but more in a 'Do as I say I am your father!' Approach. "Well one of your old school friends contacted us about your sisters bible camp, she lectures there now. Such a lovely girl that Fiona. Always has made our church proud" Another thing. My family are devout Catholics, also...Fiona was going to die for telling my parents my business. What else could she have told them? Was this why they had come? I started to feel sick. If my parents met Dean my dad would have an Arianism and my mom a heart attack. As far as they we're concerned I was still a virgin. I smiled sweetly hoping nothing else was said. My parents both sat down making themselves comfy. I immediately took a moment to make some drinks for us all and text Chloe.

'My parents just showed up. What do I do?' I text her the second I put the kettle on boil. Within seconds she text back. 'OMG! Really? How did they know where you live?'...'Fiona' was all I said. I began to bite my nails feeling myself panic. My dad always looked grumpy so it was hard to read if he knew anything else. My mom was always happy even when punishing me as a child. I couldn't read her either. 'That snotty nosed bible bashing bitch!' Yeah Chloe hated Fiona on the best of days. 'Cass what are you going to do? Did she tell them anything else?' The kettle clicked and I banging to deliberately take my time bashing the side and cups to make it sound like I was busy. 'I don't know on both parts. I'm actually scared' I heard my mom call out for me and I rushed the drinks and headed back to them keeping a smile on my face. Handing them both their tea I sat opposite them gripping my own cup for safety. "I was just telling you dad that you look so thin. Have you been eating properly?" I couldn't help but laugh inside. My mom always worried about my weight. If I wasn't thin I was getting tubby. "Yes mom. I eat three full meals a day and a healthy snack when I get the chance" I knew that was what she wanted to hear as she smiled. My eyes stayed on my mom too scared to see my dad's reaction to anything. Nobody got a chance to say anything else as someone knocked on the door. I froze unsure of who that could be. If it was Dean I was dead. "You going to get that Cassie?" My dad asked raising an eyebrow at me as I must have sat frozen with fear for longer than I expected. I nodded getting up feeling my hand shake as I reached for the door handle. I exhaled a breath I didn't know I had been holding as I opened the door to see Chloe. "I came to help you. We don't know what that bitch has told them so I can back you up" I smiled letting her in. Chloe to the rescue as always.

"Hey Mrs and Mr Parker" My parents have different last names to me as I was named after my great grandmother. "Oh hi Chloe. Don't you look healthy and happy as always" I mentally face palmed myself as I followed her into the front room. "Thanks Mrs Parker" "Oh Chloe you know to call me Helen" Chloe smiled as she got herself comfy. I sat down also hoping the pressure would come off me now my best friend who my parents adore, was here. An hour passed of Chloe and my parents talking away about anything and everything. I felt more relaxed now and less stressed. Leaving them all to it I headed to the kitchen to make some more drinks. My mom convinced Chloe to invite some of our friends round for a drink and chat. Chloe happily excepted but I knew this was cause for concern. My mom was snooping. She was sly and clever at this kind of thing. I had a feeling she did know something and was trying to find out what I have been hiding all this time. The only thing I had to hide was Dean. This made me worry. I headed back into the room with more drinks when I almost dropped everything at what I heard. "...and he's such a wealthy man. I can't wait for Cassie to meet him tonight" I sat down hoping they didn't notice my weak moment. "I'm meeting who now?" My mom looked away sheepish as my dad leaned forward lowering his stare at me. "A great man that you will be thankful to marry" I coughed on my tea in shock. "WHAT?!" I couldn't help my outburst. I knew this was why they came to visit. "His name is Mathew. He is a very handsome man Cassie..." "I don't want to be introduced to some guy then expected to start a relationship with him just because you guys say so!" I whined feeling myself want to hide from my dad's stare. I had avoided this for years. I couldn't lose this battle now after all my hard work to hide from my family. "Cassie, you are getting older every day. Me and your dad just want you to be happy. Mathew will make you happy. He is very excited to meet you" I wanted to scream and shout at them yet I couldn't. I couldn't react that way to my parents. I would need to find a way out of this using my usual tricks. Even if it meant doing a runner again and starting a fresh.
