"No family is perfect... we argue, we fight. We even stop talking to each other at times. But in the end, family is family... The love will always be there."

MUM WAS HOME on Sunday. I smelt the scent of pancakes on the way down. I couldn't help the grin that crept up my face. Mum was often busy, so when she was around, it felt great. I skipped down the last steps, grinning. I hugged her in the kitchen smelling her lavender perfume before grabbing several pancakes before she could butter on it. Some of her pancakes were burnt but it was fine.

I ate the pancakes with jam since I couldn't locate the maple syrup. "How's your sleepover at Rekha's?" She asked. Note to self, get my stuff back from Rekha's place.

"It's fine, Rekha and I had a lot of fun," I updated her about school, and other real things that had happened while she was away. I was finished with my pancakes when we both heard the sound of hurried footsteps on the stairs.

I turned to my blonde haired sister, with a grey beanie over her perfect blonde head wearing a long sleeved white shirt with blue skinny jeans paired off with beautiful brown boots I wanted to borrow. She was clearly not dressed for breakfast with us. "I'm going to grab breakfast with Archer," She said. Allison didn't look at us as she grabbed the car keys hanging near the coat closet.

"Allison!" Our mother called out, "We need to talk."

"No shit," Allison growled, "Do you want to talk now?"

"Talk about what?" I asked glancing between the two of them. Mum's arms were crossed as she stared at my older sister. My older sister was tensed up, before she turned around to look at me, scowling before she met our mothers gaze.

"I've got good news," My mother said.

"If you called that good news-"

"Dad's coming home," She finished. I don't miss the anger in her eyes as she looked at Allison. Allison looked caught off-guard, she blinked several times.

"When?" I asked. The tension in the air was tense and thick, and I didn't have the faintest clue as why, but the news was so good, so bright among everything that it was unfair that the air was thick. Resentment burned inside me at Allison for messing everything up.

Mum forced a smile into her face, "In two weeks time, and we're going to have the Nowell's over too, to celebrate."

I closed my eyes trying to fight the wave of annoyance, because that meant Kaden as well.

"And, I'd like you both to-" but before she finished her sentence, Allison was moving towards the door, she slammed the door shut as she left, "-behave." My mother finished. She looked at the extra bunch of pancakes for Allison and let out a breath, "Is that to much to ask?" she said softer more to herself than me.

I felt the need to comfort her, so I lied, "Your pancakes are fantastic mum."

She smiled softly, then she pulled the island stool to sit down close to me. "Thank you Amber, love." She closed her eyes for a bit, then she looked at me. I didn't want to, but I noticed the slight pain in her eyes, "You know how much I love both you and Allison right?"
