Ludwig has (somewhat) short term memory loss.
He can remember randomly a event clearly decades back, but sometimes can't remember what happened a hour prior. He will remember eventually if he tries to recall really hard or retrace his steps from when he started to forget.
However, he still doesn't know where the memories of a man playing a piano and a cute maid in a green dress come from.
