The three boys glared at Jake as Kelly led him by.
"Ignore them!" His new foster mom laughed, smiling at him then shooting a glare at the three boys. "Those are your new brothers, Xion--"
The middle boy huffed and looked away. He had the same dark brown hair and green-yellow eyes as the rest of his family. The only thing that made him different--other than the pretty obvious age gap--was a scar over his nose, stretching from one cheek to the other. Xion was wearing a red polo, blue jeans and gray sneakers. There was a silver watch around his left wrist.
"And the twins, Ryan and Brian."
The twins had no distinguishing features. They even wore the same clothes.
"Oh, the one on the far right is Ryan and the one on the left is Brian." Kelly cleared up. "Come on, let's go to your room!"
Jake nodded silently and followed the perky woman down another hall to a room with a blood red door.
"Here we are~!" Kelly sang, swinging the door open.
The room was spacey, with black walls and silver trimmings. The bed had a silver frame and navy blue sheets and comforter. There was a dark wooden desk next to the bed, with a lamp and cup full of pencils. When Jake walked in, he noticed a closet on the far right of the room with a dresser in it.
Jake put his duffel bag on the bed.
"Well, do you like it?" Kelly asked, sounding hopeful. Jake's face twitched when he heard a slight... fakeness in her voice.
"Yeah." He finally said, giving her a tight, anxious smile. "It's nice."
Kelly beamed. She did that glide/walk thing and was suddenly hugging him. Jake stiffened.
"Hey, it's okay." She whispered. "I know it's hard, being put in a new family only a month after the crash. But just give us a chance, okay? Your brothers might not seem very welcoming, but they're just--they don't know what to expect, okay? They'll warm up to you."
Jake just nodded. Kelly let go and smiled again. Once again, Jake sensed 'fake' written all over her face.
"Dinner's in an hour, okay?" Her voice was light. "Take that time to get unpacked. I'll introduce you to Paul."
She left and Jake sat on his bed and put his head in his hands, letting out a shaking exhale.
