Author's POV

"Dave! Why go live with her? She's going to yell at you for leaving the toilet seat up and because you leave your dirty clothes laying around!" Killian said, trying to convince his friend not to move out.

"You leave your clothes laying around." David placed the box on the floor and turned to his friend with a smirk. "Just admit it, you're going to miss me."

"I am not."

"You'll still see me, just not as much. I'm sure if you find a nice girl, and bring her back here, after an hour or so, you'll be fine. Now, I have to go. Mary Margaret is expecting me." Killian watched David grab the box and left the apartment. All morning, David had been taking his boxes to his truck to take them to his girlfriend's house. Mary Margaret had finally asked him if he would move in with her, and of course, David said yes. The truth was, he didn't want to ask her because Killian lived with him. Killian shut the door behind David and slouched on the couch. He knew that he would have to find another roommate. He was only a bartender, but it didn't pay enough to sustain his life. The door opened and David walked in. Killian was surprised to see him so soon. Maybe he actually would miss Dave. "I accidentally took my key," he said and put it on the hook by the door. "I also put an ad up in the newspaper and online for a roommate for you. You're welcome." He shut the door before Killian could say anything.

He decided to take David's advice and find a girl to warm his bed for the night, and worry about the roommate thing later. He got up and took a shower, being lost in his thoughts.

He had known David since grade school. It was 6th grade, and Killian was the troublemaker. Not doing homework and getting in trouble. A lot. Detention was his turf. But one day, he bumped into a blonde kid in the hallways. Killian decided to help him pick up his stuff and make his way around the entire elementary school because he was a new kid. From that day forward, Killian decided to actually try to participate in school. His grades went up and he stayed out of detention, all so he could help his new friend. David and Killian ended up going to the same college, and moved in together after they graduated.

It was hard for Killian to accept that his friend was moving out. But, as David had pointed out, they would still see each other. Just not as much.

Emma Swan grabbed her last box from her now ex-boyfriend's house. She turned her head and saw him leaning in the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. Graham and Emma had gotten into another argument. He got promoted, but that meant he would be moving to Florida. He wanted Emma to stay in Boston, but she figured that there was a reason why he wanted her to stay. After arguing for two hours about it, Emma decided it was time to end the relationship. She packed up her few belongings and took them to her car. She got in and didn't look back as she drove to a small nearby coffee shop. She grabbed her iPad and went in. She connected to the wifi and started looking for apartments. She didn't care if she had to share with someone or not, she just needed a place to stay. As she looked through, she found a nice apartment. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, a small kitchen, and a small living space. Considering she wouldn't be there a lot, it was perfect. The only downside- she had to have a roommate. Below the description and the pictures, was a name and a phone number. She took out her phone and called this Killian Jones.

As Killian was getting out of the shower, his phone started to ring. He wrapped a towel around his waist and brushed his hair out of his eyes. He ran to the kitchen where his phone was charging. An unknown number popped up onto the screen, and he considered leaving it and letting the call go to voicemail, but then remembered it could be about a roommate. "Killian Jones speaking," he said as he picked up.

"This is Emma Swan. I was calling about sharing your apartment," she started.

He was taken back by her voice. He sat down and ran his hand through his hair. "Aye, it's still available. Do you want to come take a look at the apartment?"

"That would be great."

"Great. I'm sure you have the address. When will you-" His voice cracked. He cleared his throat and started again. "When will you be coming?"

"Is fifteen minutes okay?"

"Yeah. Perfect. I'll see you then." He hung up and scrambled into his room. He only had fifteen minutes to get dressed and straighten up the house. He was eager to see the face behind the voice. He picked a dark green shirt, black jeans, and black shoes. He ran into the bathroom and hung his towels up and combed his hair. He ran into the living room and grabbed the clothes that were scattered on the floor. He picked up papers and put them in a neat pile on the counter. He looked over and was relieved to see no dishes in the sink. 'Thank you, Dave.' And just at that moment, there was a knock at the door. He straightened his shirt and walked over to the door. He opened it, and found himself leaning against the wall for support. "Emma?" He questioned, making sure it was really the woman he was speaking to only fifteen minutes earlier.

"Killian," she spoke and looked into his eyes.

He cleared his throat and backed up, forcing his knees to support his weight. "Come in, love, and I'll show you around," he said. He watched as she lingered in the doorway for a moment, as if afraid to come in. When she did, her tense stance didn't fade or go away. She was being cautious, and he wanted to know why.

"It's a nice place," Emma complimented.

"Thanks. My friend and I picked it out after college," Killian said. He looked back at Emma and she was looking around. He already knew he was going to pick her. "So, what do you do, Emma?"

"I'm a bailbonds person."

"So, almost like a police officer?"

"Almost. But, I'm hardly ever home, so it will be like I'm not even here."

"I'd like to know when you are," he smirked at her and he watched her blush and turn her head. "Next month's rent will be due as soon as possible. It is the first of every month. We'll split the bills up evenly, and I'm pretty sure that's it."

"Wait, so I'm in?"

He laughed, "of course. When will you be moving in?"

"I have all of my boxes in my car actually."

"Fantastic." He walked over to the door and grabbed David's old key and handed it to her. "Welcome home, Emma."
