Emma's POV

At least I know that my birth control is working.

This day has been terrible. I didn't catch my perp, but I ended up chasing him, but then when he ran up a flight of stairs, he decided to push me down and I fell. I now had a huge gash on my arm. My long sleeves were hiding it, but until it was healed, I couldn't let Killian see. I didn't want him to worry about me.

After Killian and I split the raw cookie dough, we went back inside. I sat down on the couch while he went to the kitchen and grabbed us some beers. He handed me one and sat down beside me.

"You know that I love you, right?" He asked.

"Yeah, why?"

"How much do you love me?"

"Killian," I sighed and put my beer down on the coffee table and scooted closer to him. I put my hand on his cheek and his head fell into my hand. "I love you more than anything. I love you with all my heart."

"Promise?"

"I promise." I leaned in and kissed him. His hands flew to my hips and he pulled me onto his lap. I kept my knees closed together and my ankles locked as he kissed me. Once the kiss started to grow deeper, I pulled away knowing where it could end up. I could already feel him under me, and I knew I had to put an end to it. I went to the kitchen and got a glass and filled it with water. I leaned against the counter. Killian was still sitting on the couch. He ran his hand through his hair, making it stick up. I took a deep breath and placed the glass down when the oven went off. I took the pan out of the oven and placed the cookies onto a plate. Killian came into the kitchen and stole one of the chocolate chip cookies off the plate. I stuck my tongue out at him and he laughed and went back to the living room. "I'm going to go take a shower," I said and went into my room to get some clothes.

I took my time in the shower. The water running down my back eased my aching muscles and relaxed me. As I washed off, I made sure to be extra careful with my arm. The scrape hurt like hell. It stung as the water ran down my arm. When I got dressed in my pajamas, I made sure that the sleeves were rolled down before I exited the bathroom. All the lights were shut off so I assumed that Killian was in his bedroom. I knocked on his door and pushed it open when I heard him give me permission to enter. He was laying on his phone with one arm underneath his head. He looked up and scooted over, making room on the left side. "I wanted to tell you goodnight," I said and walked into the room, and kissed his forehead. He grabbed my hand and brought it to his lips, and kissed my knuckles over and over again.

"You're not sleeping in here tonight? I missed you last night," he said.

"You really wouldn't want me to."

"Swan, I'm not scared of a little blood." He pulled me down and I let out a yelp of surprise. He hovered over me and kissed me sweetly. "I love you. No matter what."

"Oh, fine! Just stop!" I giggled, pushing him away from me.

"Good." He scooted to his side and I stood up from the bed. "Where are you going?" He became concerned, as if I was going to leave.

"Just going to get my phone," I said and went out to the kitchen. My shirt sleeves were getting in the way, so I rolled them up, and came back with my charger in one hand and my phone in the other. I plugged my phone in and laid down, waiting for him to shut the light off and lay down too. He gasped and yanked my arm out from under me, and I winced. My heart then stopped. 'Idiot, idiot, idiot! Way to go, Emma. Did you really think you could hide that from him?'

"Where did you get that?" He asked as he looked at my arm intently.

"Killian-"

"Where, Emma?" He asked with more authority in his voice.

"Work."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't want you to worry."

"Love, I always worry about you. Especially when you go to work. Those people are violent, and I don't know who you are after. You don't ever tell me anything about your bloody job!"

"I don't tell you anything because it's still weird having someone who actually cares!" I got up off the bed and put my head in my hands. "Graham pretended to care! You have no idea what it's like to constantly be left alone and betrayed!" I got back on the bed on my knees and grabbed his hands. "I can take care of myself. Just trust me."

"I do, Swan. But just because I trust you, doesn't mean I can trust everyone else." He pulled my injured arm closer to him and gently ran his fingertips over it. "Did you clean this out?"

"Yeah. It's too big for a bandaid."

Killian got up off the bed and left the room. A minute later, he came back with a tube of ointment. "Here." He squeezed some of it out of the tube and spread it onto the scrape on my arm. I winced and he stopped. "Sorry, love." He gently rubbed more of the medicine into my skin.

"Thank you," I said after he finished rubbing it on my arm.

He tilted my head up with my fingers so I was looking at him in the eye. He gently kissed me and then went back into the bathroom and put the tube back. "Lay down, love. We should get some rest."

I laid against his chest and with his arms wrapped around me. "Night, Killian."

"Night, Emma."
