Killian's POV

I went out to the lobby to find Emma curled up in one of the chairs. An empty cup sat beside her. I went over to her and gently shook her awake. It was dark outside, and we had been here for a while. Plus, we weren't exactly off of London time yet. Her eyes opened and she looked around for a moment, confused to where she was, but then looked up at me and yawned.

"What time is it?" She asked.

"Around nine, love." I held my hand out for her and she got out of the chair and grabbed the paper cup beside her.

"I didn't mean to fall asleep."

"Don't worry about it, love." I wrapped my arm around her and we walked to the exit. "Why didn't you stay with us? Dave was high on pain meds and was acting like a complete idiot."

She shrugged, "you guys knew him longer than I did. Plus, I knew how worried you were about him."

"Love, David adores you."

"Still. You needed to see him more than I did."

I turned to her and we stopped walking. "My friends are your friends. They all took you in with open arms because they like you. Just because we have deeper connections with each other, doesn't mean you have to keep your distance."

"Being close with people is still new to me," she sighed and her head fell to my shoulder as her arms wrapped around me. "Don't be mad at me. I'm sorry."

"I'm not mad." I pulled her off of me and gave her a reassuring smile. "I understand, darling. I do. But I don't want you to ever think that you aren't welcome with me and my friends. They are our friends."

She nodded. "Okay."

We went out to my car and drove back to our new house. Emma snuggled up on the couch in the living room while I reheated the dinner we didn't get a chance to eat. I gave Emma her plate and we watched a movie as we ate. After the movie was over, we went upstairs and went to bed. I woke up the next morning to the alarm. I was excited as soon as I woke up. I shook Emma awake, and she groaned.

"I'm awake!" She yelled groggily.

"We have to go to the adoption agency," I reminded her and she sat up.

I got off the bed and ran into the bathroom to start getting ready. When I got back into the bedroom, Emma was dressed and she was putting her shoes on. She ran past me and into the bathroom and slammed the door shut behind her. I went downstairs and got our jackets ready and put my car keys on top of my jacket, just so I would know where they were. Emma came running downstairs a few minutes later and shoved her arms through the sleeves of her jacket. I poured us both some coffee and she grabbed her phone. "We have to go!"

I glanced at the clock and laughed, "we still have ten minutes, love. Relax."

"But what if they take us earlier if we get there sooner?"

"Breathe, Swan." I exaggerated how by taking a deep breath through my nose and then releasing it. She relaxed and I smiled. "Good girl." She grabbed her coffee from me and took a slow sip. She hummed at the taste and sat down at the counter. I sat next to her and watched her as she checked her email and text messages. At 8:30, I cleared my throat, catching her attention. She looked up at me and I smiled. "It's time to go." She bounced off the chair and ran to the door like an excited little kid. I laughed at her and grabbed my keys. I locked the door and we went out to my car and drove to the adoption agency.

When we pulled to the parking lot, Emma and I got out and walked as casually as we could to the entrance of the building. We walked to the reception desk and the woman looked at us with a fake smile on her face, "welcome to Little Angel's Adoption Center. How can I help you?"

"Yeah, we're here for an interview with Mrs. Pierce," I said.

She nodded, "sit over there. Mrs. Pierce will be with you shortly."

Emma and I sat down in the chairs. Her grip on my hand was tight, and I knew she was nervous. "Love, relax."

"I'm okay."

"You're nervous," I stated.

"And you're not? We're here to get a kid. What if they don't like us? What if they decided we aren't good parents?"

I cut her rambling off with a short peck to her lips. "They're going to look at us and think, "These people look like the perfect parents!" I wouldn't be surprised if they gave us a child just as we walked in there." She giggled and I could tell she was really okay now.

Our names were called and we stood up and followed the man to an office down the hall. He opened the door for us and we stepped in. A red haired woman sat behind a desk. The tag on her desk said Angela Pierce. We sat down in the chairs and she looked at us with a warm smile on her face. "Mr. and Mrs. Jones?" She asked.

"Aye," I confirmed.

"You're forms look fantastic. It also says here that you are newlyweds. I bet that was fun."

"It was," Emma said. "We went to London for our honeymoon."

"My husband and I went to Australia," Angela nodded. "But, you aren't here to talk about weddings and honeymoons. You're here to talk about getting a child."

"Yes. We wanted to adopt a teenager if possible," Emma said with hope in her voice. She scrambled to find my hand, and when she did, she squeezed tightly.

"We actually have one teenager left in the nearest Boston group home. She's thirteen. Is that acceptable?"

Emma nodded. "That's perfect."

"Now, I just wanted to tell you that to ensure that a child is safe, someone is going to come out to inspect your home. Is that alright?"

I nodded. "We just moved into a house out of the city. It's in a safe neighborhood with a great school," I told her.

"Perfect." She stood up and so did Emma and I. "What day is good for you?"

"Tomorrow," Emma blurted out.

Angela nodded and wrote some information down. "Tomorrow around 11:00?"

I nodded and she handed me a sticky note. "Thank you."

"No, Mr. Jones, thank you."

We walked out of the office and back to my car. Emma leaned back in the seat and smiled. She looked over at me and leaned in close to me so our foreheads were touching. "We're getting a daughter, Killian."
