*Heather’s PoV*

The next day flew by, and before I knew it, I woke up an 18yr old. I rubbed my eyes, jumped out of bed, got changed into sweats, sweater, and slippers, before heading out my door. I met Ryan in the hall. I knew what I wanted for him for my birthday.

“Happy…” was all he could get out before I pinned him against the wall in an intense kiss. I didn’t know why I was so crazed for his kiss, but I wanted it then. “PDA…PDA…” he mumbled between his kisses. “Shut up…it’s my birthday…” I mumbled between mine.

Suddenly, we were interrupted by a cough. I turned to see my dad standing behind me. “Happy Birthday, Heather.” he said, with a tone of ‘don’t let me catch you snogging in my hallway again.’ “Thanks Daddy.” I said, blushing. He walk away, and Ryan whispered, “Told you.” “Oh, shut up.” I said, before placing another kiss on his lips.

We walked into the kitchen, and sat at the table. Dad gave Ryan a funny look, and Ryan shook his head. I shrugged it off and asked, “Where are we having the party?” I never planned my parties; I just showed up, and had fun.

“At the dance hall.” Dad said, presenting strawberry pancakes, “It’s at 6, and it’s 11AM now.” I nodded; Dad loved to keep a schedule.

“I’ll lay everything out.” I said, about to jump out of my chair, but Dad stopped me, “No need. Your mom and Ryan are taking you out to get clothes and get your hair done and stuff…” He kinda trailed off, as he turned back to the stove. I looked at Ryan, “Why are you going?” He gave a mischievous grin, “You’ll understand by the end of the night.”

After breakfast and my shower, Mom, Ryan and I were on our way to the Mall. “We’ll get your dress first, then get your hair done, and then manicure.” Mom explained; she had Dad’s scheduling desire too. I nodded, and turned to Ryan, who was in the back seat. He smiled, and reached for my hand, which I gave him. This wasn’t the first time Ryan had come shopping with me, because he had a good fashion sense for a straight guy, but I didn’t understand his excitement to come this time.

We pulled in, and walked into my favorite dress store.

Mom and Ryan picked out a couple dresses for me to try on, but none of them set right with three of us. I sat in my dressing room, sighing in frustration, when a blue dress was brought over the door. “Ryan picked this out.” Mom said, and I took it. I zipped it up, and looked in the mirror; Ryan did have good fashion sense. I walked out, and Ryan smiled, “That’s it.” Mom nodded, “That look perfect, Heather. What do you think?” “I love it.” I said, “Let’s get it.”

I didn’t have to say it twice. We walked to the counter with that and a pair of boots that matched. I often wore boots with my dresses.

Next, we went to get my hair done. Mom quietly told the stylist what to do, and she twirled my chair so I couldn’t see. I looked at Ryan, who was giving me a half-smile. “What’s up with all the secrets?” I asked, and he shrugged, “You only turn 18 once; believe me. I guess we all want it to be the most special thing it can be…” “Like you.” he added, just quiet enough for only me to hear. I smiled, and the stylist continued to style my hair.

I finally got to see it, 20 minutes later. It was a simple, yet perfect, half up/half down hair style. I thanked the stylist, and Mom took me next door to get a manicure, and make-up done; Ryan disappeared to get ‘my birthday present.’

My nails were blue sparkles, my eyes were done in a Smokey Eye style, and my lips were light pink. About 45 minutes later, We got out, and met Ryan. “Wow…” he said, when he looked at me, “You look beautiful, Heather.” I looked down, and smiled, “Thanks, Ryan,” “When you smile at the ground, it ain’t hard to tell…” Ryan mumbled to me, and I giggled, looking back up at him. He took my hand, “Come on, Princess“

We got to the car, and Ryan said, “Oh, I almost forgot to give this to you.” He reached in a little bag, and handed me a heart necklace, with an odd shaped mark cut out of it. “Thank you.” I said, as he help me get in on, “What is up with the hole?” he revealed a key necklace around his neck, “So you always remember who has the key to your heart.” I giggled at the cheesy comment, and leaned in to kiss him, but he backed up, “Nuh-uh, you have to keep that make up perfect. Now come on, we have a party to get to.”
