The colorful leaves were hiding the grass surrounding the hospital. Pouring rain was ticking against the windows and because of the unending grey cloud it seemed dark already, even though the evening had barely begun.

In one of the rooms the first cry of a baby girl made her young parents smile. They had already fallen in love with her bloodied little body carefully placed on her mother's chest. For nine months they had been looking forward to this day, the day the life of their daughter would officially start.

Next to the bed a young man moaned while he straightened his back and rolled his neck. The huge wings that had carried him all the way down from heaven to earth were disappearing and left nothing but two small scars on his shoulder blades. While the wind was howling and the lighting was striking he looked down at the child he had vowed to protect with a smile on his face.

Her life wasn't the first falling under his protection and it wouldn't be the last either. But it was her first and last life, so she deserved the very best she could get.
