Maine was sitting by the bleachers in the university gym crocheting a tablet cozy as a gift for her good friend Vianca's birthday tomorrow, while waiting for Chard to finish his basketball practice.

Vianca's tablet cozy (a/n: made this for myself last year hihih)
He personally asked her to tutor him, an hour everyday after school, because his grades in Calculus wasn't doing good. He needed to have an 85% so he could keep his scholarship. She had her earphones on and sang along Big Mountain's "You Stole My Heart Away" while she tried to weave in the loose ends on her finished crochet project when she felt someone tapped her shoulder. It was Chard, looking down at her, smiling. Chard: Mahilig ka pala sa reggae songs. Maine (smiling): Oo, nakaka relax kasi ang reggae. Lakas maka beach vibes. Chard: Nagagantsilyo kana naman, masisira lalo mata mo jan e. (Pushing Maine's thick-rimmed glasses up her nosebridge) Gawan moko ng beanie, yung slouchy para cool. He was grinning widely, his dimple deepening. He was starting to take his notes out so they can start their tutorial session. Maine: Okay, sige. Pero hindi free yan ha, you have to pay for it. Chard: Ay grabe ka! Libre nalang yun, e libre endorsement din naman yun. Akalain mo, ginagamit ng school MVP ang gawa mo. Siguradong maraming mag oorder sayo niyan. Maine: Ay mas matindi naman yang bilib mo sa sarili mo, Mr. School MVP! Boyfriend ba kita para gawan ng beanie, hmmm?! Aba, business is business huy! At di uubra sakin yang dimple mo kaya tigilan moko, Faulkerson! Chard: E di liligawan kita, yun lang naman pala. Maine: Please sabihin mong nagbibiro ka lang, nao offend nako sa pinagsasabi mo. Chard: Ganito nalang, Maine. Kapag makakuha ako ng more than 85% final grade sa Calculus, magpapaligaw ka sakin. Deal? Maine: Tigilan moko, Richard! Magsimula na nga tayo, gusto ko ng umuwi. Chard could only smile. He's been in love with Maine since freshman year, yun din ang dahilan kung bakit si Maine ang pinakiusapan niyang mag tutor sa kanya ng Calculus. Dinadaan niya lang sa biro yung mga banat niya, pero mahal niya talaga si Maine. From that day on, araw-araw niyang nililigawan si Maine. Pasimple lang niyang nilalagay ang mga love notes sa libro ni Maine. Or binibigyan niya ng flower si Maine, nagdadala siya ng food sa tutorial sessions nila. On Saturday nights, dumadalaw siya sa bahay ni Maine. He texted her in the morning when he wakes up at sa gabi before he goes to bed. He didn't know Maine is starting to fall for him already, she thought of a plan. Days, weeks, months passed by and graduation is fast approaching. As their grades were being released, their class adviser also announced that Maine is their class valedictorian. Maine: Patingin ng grade mo sa Calculus, Chard. Chard (smiling widely): Secret muna, sa graduation kona sasabihin. Maine: Luh! Sabihin mona ngayon, grabe ka ako yung nag tutor sa'yo kaya dapat lang na alam ko rin. Ang daya nito! Chard: Sasabihin ko nga pero sa graduation na, promise! Maine just pouted her lips, nagtatampo. Graduation day came... The graduation rites went really well, Maine delivered a very inspiring valedictory speech to her fellow graduates but her eyes were only on Chard. At the celebratory dinner at the Mendoza's home. Maine and Chard were eating ice cream by the lanai. Chard: 89%... Maine: Huh?! Chard: Yung final grade ko sa Calculus, 89%. Maine: Talaga?! Wow, congrats! Chard: Magaling ka kasing tutor e. Maine: Wait, may kukunin lang ako. She came back carrying a blue box then handed it to Chard. Maine: Here, open it. Congratulations! Chard: Uyy may pa regalo kapa ha. Akala mo ikaw lang. Sandali... (dumukot sa bulsa niya, saka sinuot yung bracelet sa wrist ni Maine) Maine: Ang ganda, Chard. Salamat (pabebe smile) O, open mona yung gift ko. The blue box contained 3 slouchy beanies. Chard was surprised. Chard: Wait. Is this what I think it is? O papabayaran mo sakin tong tatlo, isa lang pinapagawa ko ah. Maine: Kahit kailan panira ka talaga ng moment, wag na nga lang! Sige, bayaran mo yang tatlo, 450 isa! Chard: hahahaah joke lang. Basta wala nang bawian ha? Maine: Kainis ka, Faulkerson. Sa'yo nga lang ako nag effort ng ganyan e, 2 gabi ko kayang ginawa yan. Chard: Salamat. (Holds her hands) I love you, Mendoza. Maine: I love you, Richard. Please don't break my heart. Chard: I won't, promise. (Then sang a few lines from her favorite song) 🎵In my mind, there's no other love You're the only girl my heart and soul is thinking of Girl, you turned me inside out And you showed me what life was about Only you, the only one that stole my heart away🎶
