The pen hadn't been worth stealing. It was pretty and all, but once the coveted item was home, in her hand and placed to paper, well, it was just disappointing.

She'd had cheap pens write nicer than this. It didn't flow across the page fluidly. The ink didn't dry fast enough.

She thought this beautifully and horridly expensive pen would be a saving grace.

It wasn't.

It was just a cheaply made, overly priced writing tool that did not speak to her.

The beauty of it had tempted her. Pulled her in.

What a foolish thought she had had. To think this lovely thing would be a source of inspiration.

With a sigh, she tossed it into her desk drawer.

She pulled out the old Pilot Easytouch pen she always used.

She felt shame, like a lover who cheated.

But her faithful pen was forgiving.

The pen touched paper and the words flowed smoothly and fluidly. The instrument in her hand feeling like an extension of herself.

She had learned her lesson.
