Chapter 7

Note: This story happens after the whole thing, therefore it means it happens when Kirito is re-defeating Aincrad with his friends.

July 29 8:00 P.M. Floor 55 Granzam

Agil placed down five mugs. "Two coffees, one tea, beer for Klien and beer for me,"Agil counted. "Did I miss anything?" Everybody shook their head. They were in the back of Agil's little trade store. Agil sat down and sighed. "I envy Asuna and Kirito, yet I feel bad for them,"Agil sighed. "Mostly envy for me,"Klein answered. Lisbeth whacked him in the arm. "Agil meant the fact that they have family! Not the fact that he's got good looks!"Lisbeth yelled. "I do feel bad for them, though. They've gone through a lot. More than even me,"Sinon added. "Yeah,"Silica agreed.

August 4 12:00 Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (Tocho)

Asuna and Kirito stepped out of Tocho. Most other representatives were eating lunch inside the building, or taking earlier flights back to Aincrad, but Kirito and Asuna were needed in a more confidential meeting at 4:00, and going back to Aincrad on a 6:00 flight. Asuna and Kirito had silently agreed to not stay in the building for the whole day. Kirito turned to Asuna and asked, "Is it okay if I go to Mom? She must be worried sick." Asuna smiled understandingly and nodded, as they headed off to the train station, to ride a few stops to Kirito's old house.

Kirito's hand was a centimeter away from the doorbell, yet he couldn't seem to do it. His hand shook badly. He turned to Asuna and asked, "How do I explain everything?" Asuna smiled, squeezing his left hand which she held. "Just tell her in small bits. Let her have time to digest one bit of information before the other. First, is the fact that we are all alive and unharmed,"Asuna answered. Kirito nodded. He could do that. It was reasonable and possible. It didn't sound all that overwhelming. Asuna rang the doorbell for him, before he could steel his nerves. There was banging of a few pots, then a squeal of a door, and shuffling, before the front door slowly opened. Midori stood there. There were bags under her eyes, and she blinked a few times, staring at them, as if not comprehending what happened.

Then suddenly as Kirito let go of Asuna's hand and reached forward and to pull Midori into a hug, she started crying. Midori only stayed there for a minute or so before pulling back and asking, "Where's Suguha?" "She's in Aincrad. Suguha's safe with Nagata Shinichi,"Kirito reassured. "Shinichi. Isn't that the boy in Suguha's class?"Midori asked. Asuna nodded. "Come in, come in!"Midori ushered them inside, into the dining area, placing down a whole feast of food. Eyeing the food, Kazuto asked, "When did you make so much food, Ma?" "Oh. I started cooking this morning! I was bored! Eat up! It usually goes into the trash anyways,"Midori answered. Asuna frowned and instead of eating said, "Wait, you mean that you've been making feasts like this regularly?" Midori just shrugged. "It's been hard. It helps take my mind off stuff to cook,"Midori answered in a barely audible whisper, leaning on the counter. Then she turned around with a soft smile and laughed, "Dig in!" Kirito and Asuna nodded, and ate, silently.

After a while, Kirito stopped eating. There was still loads of food. But it was way more than three people could eat. Asuna stopped too. Midori had just watched them the whole time and hadn't eaten a single thing, even though Kazuto told her to eat quite a few times. "Ma, you need to understand that things will have changed with me and Suguha,"Kirito started. Midori nodded and sighed, "I know. I know very well." "We arranged it so that you could come with us and stay for a while in Aincrad, though, if you want to see Suguha despite the changes, and we can pick you up later today,"Asuna offered. Midori considered the thought, then nodded. "I just have to make a few arrangements,"Midori replied, then stood up and hurried out with her phone.

Once she did so, Kirito immediately grabbed Asuna's hand for reassurance, and let out a long breath he didn't know he'd held. Asuna squeezed his hand with an understanding smile. "Thanks,"he whispered. Asuna continued smiling at him. Kirito leaned in and kissed her softly on a lips. A thankful one. They sprang apart as footsteps neared, and Midori stepped in. Both blushed, badly.

August 4 10:00 Aincrad Floor 22

Leafa watched with a smile playing on her lips, watching Recon sleep with Yui in his lap. He looked so cute like that. Asuna and Kazuto had left Yui with Leafa and Recon in their house. Leafa knew very well they'd be talking to her Mother. She knew Asuna and Kirito would come back soon, but it still surprised her when keys sounded outside, and the locks clicked, as Recon woke from his sleep, almost jumping up and pushing Yui to the floor, before he grabbed Yui. As footsteps walked into the living room, Recon placed Yui onto the chair he had sat, and pushed up his glasses.

Kazuto walked in, then Asuna. Suguha didn't expect the last figure to walk in. She jumped up in surprise and yelled, "Ma!" Recon straightened his face from his yawn, eyes wide, and started sweating and shaking. Suguha gave her mother a hug, before returning to Recon's side, grabbing his hand and rubbing her thumb over his knuckles to calm him down. Over the years, he'd grown taller than her. Midori surveyed the room before chuckling softly, "You weren't kidding about the changes." "Kazuto, why didn't you tell me?"Suguha whined accusingly. Mrs. Kirigaya snorted, "I haven't seen you in a whole month, and this is what I get. And, the way you whine to your brother makes you sound like a couple. A really whiny couple." Suguha's face went red faster than Asuna could use her flash penetrator. "M-ma, wh-what type of l-logic is that?"Suguha struggled to tease back. Kirito was totally red, and he was watching Asuna, who was blushing and watching Suguha, who was watching Recon, and Recon was just still staring at Midori with wide eyes, sweating and shaking. "What's wrong?"Midori asked, sensing something was wrong, but there were some things that her kids had never told her on purpose. Nobody answered. It was just a never ending loop of staring.

Recon took a deep breath. He had to man up. Even in small situations like this. So he stepped forward, and introduced himself, "I am Nagata Shinichi, Mrs. Kirigaya." Midori smiled, and looked at Kirito. He quickly stepped forward and was about to wake up Yui, when their friends' panicked voices sounded, and the door flung open.
