it's been a week since i last saw millie, since i saw anyone really.
i had three weeks left to convince her to stay in the u.s.
but i didn't know where to start.
i hadn't done anything the past week, other than unpack some boxes and bought furniture.
my face had a light stumble, i haven't shaved in forever.
i pulled out my phone and went to millie's conversation.

me : hey.. look i'm sorry.

seen at 4:23 p.m.

me : mils

seen at 4:49 p.m.

i couldn't just wait for her to leave.
i had to do something, i had to stop her.

---

i hurried and took a shower and cleaned up my face.
i threw on some clothes i pulled out of a nearby suitcase.
i noticed the box that had the new bomber jacket millie had given me.
i pushed the memory out of my mind and walked out the door.
i got to the elevator door and before i could press down, the door opened and out came
maddie ziegler.
she wasn't paying attention at all and ran into me.

"sorry," she said looking up at me "wait, are you finn?"

"yeah—"

"here, this is from millie,"

she handed me a box.

"actually, i'm going to see her now."

"i wouldn't bother, she's not talking to anyone."

"she talked to you right?"

"well yes, i mean she only said to give you that," she said eyeing the box

"that's it?" i questioned

she nodded "well i have to go, nice talking to you." she said as she stepped back into the elevator."

i walked back to my apartment and sat on the couch.
i studied the box, afraid of opening it.
but i did anyway and when i opened it i found a stack of pictures.
most of them were of me and her, but the rest were of our friends and the cast.
there was a tiny slip of paper at the bottom of the box, it read
don't forget.

how could i ever forget, i had a crush on her for 6 years, i cherished the time we spent together.
i needed to talk to her, now.
i grabbed a picture of us and wrote on the back with permanent marker.
mils, i love you, don't forget that.

i walked out the door once again and drove to millie's house.
she still lived with her parents because technically she wasn't eighteen yet.
i walked up to her door with the photo in my hand.

i knocked on the door.

no answer.

i knocked once more.

"millie, please." i said resting my head against the door.

the door opened causing me to fall in the house.
i looked up to see who had opened the door.
it was millie, her eyes were red and puffy from crying.
