1983 Palo Alto

Valley Girl. Every girls dream in a nutshell.

Cassie dreamed of the day she would walk into high school, the most popular girl of course, with her beautiful boyfriend Sodapop by her side. As a 5 year old, she had an extremely vivid imagination. She was artistic.

"I can't wait to fall in love." The little girl sighed staring at the big screen in front of her.

"I'm already in love." The small brunette boy next to her stated.

"With who?" She asked.

"Pizza. Obviously." He stated. 'Obviously' was his new big word of the week. She laughed.

"Not that kind of love, silly.". James furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"There's other kinds?" He asked. Cassie smiled at him before explaining.

"Yes. When people fall in love, the man has to buy beautiful ring, and get down on one knee to ask the girl to marry him.".

"Why does the man have to buy a ring?" James said in confusion.

"Because, they just do. And then there's a big beautiful wedding." She told him. "Right after, you have to write a letter to the baby store, and tell them what kind of baby you want.". James watched her as she stared intently at the screen that held Nicolas Cage.

"My mommy and daddy are in love. All married people are in love.". She continued.

"My parents are too?" He asked following her gaze to the television set.

"They have to be. It's impossible to marry someone you don't love." James looked at the girl, and back to the television screen. He got up, and walked towards the kitchen. He rummaged through his pantry, before finding what he was looking for. He went back into the living room, unwrapping the candy before getting down on one knee.

"Will you marry me?"

"No." The young girl laughed. He sadly looked down at the ground, as his hand fell.

"But- I love you, and you love me." He stated questioningly.

"Oh, Teddy. We're only kids. Ask me when we're grown ups." She smiled.

"When will that be?"

"Eighteen." The curly haired brunette responded, picking up his hand that was holding the ring pop. She took the candy, and stuck it in her mouth. "Strawberry. You know me so well."

"This food was amazing. Good choice." Ahna nodded taking a sip of her wine. Since my breakup with Marla a couple years ago, I had barely gone out on actual dates. Until I met Ahna. We recently started going out and I actually really liked her.

"Thought we'd try something new.". I laughed. The restaurant was very classy. Have you ever heard the saying 'The place you'd take your mistress, and the place you'd take your wife, are very different, yet the same?' This seemed like the place you'd take your mistress. Very romantic, but almost too romantic. Sensual.

The sounds of violins flowed throughout the restaurant.

Looking around the room, I noticed a brunette women being seated at a table. Alone. For some strange reason, I became mesmerized. Her thick, curled brunette hair. Her body language- it all felt so familiar to me.
