Arsenic

Arsenic is one of the most notorious poisons because it was and remains one of the most used methods of poisoning. Arsenic is usually used in the form of a white powder. You can poison someone with arsenic by having the victim ingest a large amount at once or by slowly poisoning them over a period of time.

Symptoms of poisoning with a large amount of arsenic at once:

severe stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, burning throat pain
Death will occur in a few hours

If a person is slowly being poisoned with arsenic you may be able to tell by looking at their fingernails. The fingernails will be cracked and broken because arsenic will not break down in the body, so it will remain in the victims hair, fingernail and urine. Their urine could be unusually dark as well.

It could take days or even weeks to kill someone if the poison is administered little by little.

Slowly poisoning with arsenic may cause symptoms such as:

a burning feeling in the hands and feet numbing sensation throughout the body sweating swelling, skin irritations or skin lesions weight and hair loss, cramps, vomiting and nausea, loss of eye sight, heart failure

The autopsy of a victim of arsenic poisoning may show an inflamed stomach and arsenic will show up in the digestive tract.
