It's Thursday. I leave the lunch line just in time to pass Kyle as he's heading into it. He shoots me a glare so I glare back in response.

If he thinks I'm ever going to be intimidated by him...

He's wrong.

Kyle is just as tall as I am, and we're both pretty fit. Not over the top, not under the level.

Not to mention, I don't see why I'd be intimidated by him.

He's smart and skilled, but he's a little...

Plain

And bipolar from the looks of things.

Behind him, Malory, Olivia and Ron are making their way to a table to eat.

"Hey, guys," I say, cheerily.

"Did... you two have another confrontation? Or is he still pissed off about the last time..." Malory asks, gesturing to Kyle with her chin.

Well...

Not exactly.

I roll my eyes and run a hand through my hair. "He's just never going to like me. Never has and probably never will."

We all sit at the table.

"So, what excitement did I miss yesterday?" Ron asks, spooning some rice into his mouth.

Olivia snorts into her juice. "Kyle was so pissed off he couldn't even deal with Malory. He was borderline insane all day. I think he left around lunch time or something. He didn't come back to class for the evening periods."

Suddenly I'm reminded of his frightful expression when he fixed his hair over his face to hide the awful bruise. I clear my throat and bite into a fry.

Kyle is sitting way over on the other side of the cafeteria with two guys from gym. They're laughing and trying to engage him in the conversation but he continues to eat –only barely smiling ever so often.

"He doesn't seem to want to talk to me today," Ron says, on a sad note. "I don't know why he's pissed off at me."

Hold that thought, Ron, I'm still figuring this shit out, myself.

I'm nervous when my mom finally parks in front of the peachy coloured flat down the suburban side street. I turn to look one last time into the backseat at Reed who's fast asleep. I call Olivia and she opens the front door immediately instead of answering. She waves at me with a toothy grin and I wave back, exhaling in a laugh. I grab my bag and leave the car. Olivia walks up to greet me, her mom peeking out of the front door before actually stepping out and trailing behind her. I give Olivia a fist bump, and she leans down to look at my mum through the car window.

"Evening, Mrs Hoffman," she greets, looking into the backseat at Reed. She smiles brightly. "Ron! Is that Reed?"

I smile so hard my dimple shows deeply. "Yea," I laugh, "Just got back from a doctor's visit. He's out like a light!"

"Good evening, Olivia. It's nice to meet you," mom says. Olivia's mom steps up to the car, giving me a polite smile before speaking with my mother. "And you must be the Mrs," mom adds.

"Blessed evening," Mrs Prescott says, before chuckling. "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on them both."

Ha Ha Ha...
