"Don't follow after me, Katy," Gage said, his severe tone held a hint of unease. "Go find Armita and Jason."

Immediately I sobered up from our last tender moment and nodded, trying to muster up any strength I had left. "Okay."

"And please be careful," he added as he slowly started making his way backward. Away from me. Towards the war. "If anyone puts their hands on you—"

"They won't. I'm highly trained in self-defense." I winked, hoping to lessen the fear that lingered in his eyes. But even so, as he drew further and further, away I could still see it hiding behind his baby blues.

In that painful moment, we were both trapped between what we wanted to do and what we should do. My heart screamed at me to go after Gage, but I knew that wasn't the best idea. Especially since Sparrow could use me to his advantage if need be. Because the reality was, I was Gage's weakness. Sparrow knew this. It was the main reason why he came after my shop in the first place; to get under Gage's skin. Therefore, if I was in the same room as them as they fought . . . I didn't want to think of what could happen.

With that in mind, I knew what I had to do. I had to stay out of Gage's way. It was best for both of us. For my safety and for his mental state. Because I'm sure whatever he had planned on doing to Sparrow he didn't want me to see. Not that it would change the way I felt about him. But still, there were some things Gage wanted to keep to himself. And I could respect that.
