Teaser chapter

Alex's P.O.V
I watched the windscreen wipers smash back and forth clearing the rain off the window. The raindrops hit the roof of the taxi like the beat to a pop song. My thoughts were all jumbled up and all I could hear was splashing.

'Babe, we are going to be fine.' Noah's warm hand hovered over mine. I could feel him trembling. He knew we weren't going to be and so did I.

I took a tight grip of his hand and held it in my lap.

'Just to the right after this junction please, mate.' Noah's voice breaking after every word made me shiver. I couldn't help but think only if I hadn't come to class late, crying my eyes out we wouldn't be in this mess. He would still be the school's favourite English teacher and he would be able to stay in his amazing home that he worked so hard for!

'Alex stop!' He alarmed. It made me jump.

'I know exactly what you're thinking and stop! None of this is your fault.' He moved his hand out of mine and placed it back into his lap. I felt so alone.

'Noah, it is all my fault! I came to class crying my eyes out, feeling sorry for myself as always! I'm the one who interfered with your life and ruined it for you! It's all my fault!' Tears began rolling down my face. I could see the taxi driver peering into the rear view mirror.

'Here's perfect mate, thanks very much.' Noah took a £20 note out of his back pocket and slipped it into the taxi drivers hand. 'Keep the change buddy, but we will be 2 minutes if you could keep the engine running?'

'Yep no worries. I've got a newspaper.' He replied getting comfy in his seat. I remained seated to see if Noah would at least acknowledge what I said. He didn't. He undid his seat belt and jumped out of the car.

I flung my seatbelt off and dived out of the car after him.

'Noah!' I exclaimed. He carried on walking. I ran after him. My dripping wet hair was sticking to my face as I ran.

'Noah don't ignore me!' I caught up to him and grabbed his arm. He turned around in force.

'You don't get it Alex!' Noah raised his hands in anger. 'I don't care if I don't have a teaching job at that school, I don't care if I have to move house, towns, country for that matter. I don't care that I might not have a big house like this one. I don't give a shit about any of it.'

With the motion of his head he flicked a damp piece of hair out of his face. Rain trickled from his brow down past his lips. He began walking closer.

'None of that matters to me anymore. You matter. That's what annoys me! I'm so ready to leave all of it for you in a heartbeat and you keep second guessing it all.' The more Noah raised his voice, the more the rain smashed against our faces. I walked slowly towards him.

'I'm sorry, I just hate the feeling of letting you down when all you've done is lift me up.'

He shook his head and walked towards me. He removed his navy blue coat and placed it over my head.

'Lets go and get the fuck out of here.' He whispered into my soaking wet hair. I smiled as he counted down from 3. As soon as he said one we raced to the house. Our shoes squishing in every step. Noah fiddled with the house key but eventually managed to unlock the front door.

'Right Alex, I don't want to alarm you or scare you but there is a possibility that we will get some unwanted visitors arriving at the house very soon so we are gonna have to be quick.' He threw his keys onto the small glass table besides the door and headed upstairs. My heart racing at the speed of light.

I placed Noah's coat also on the glass table and followed him upstairs. All I could hear was the sound of cost hangers being thrown onto the ground and drawers being banged off different objects. I turned right when I reached the landing into my bedroom.

'Right... Clothes?' I approached my wardrobe and flung all my clothes on to the bed in a very unorganised pile. 'Noah. Have you got a spare suitcase or bag?' I called from my bedroom to his.

'Yeah under your bed!' He responded. I reached under the bed until I felt the hardness of the suitcase. With a swift movement I pulled suitcase out from beneath the bed and began filling it with all of my belongings and necessities. I began ticking off my mental checklist.

'Underwear... Check'
'Shoes... Check'
'T-shirts.... Check'
'Bottoms.... Check'
'Toothbrush....'

I ran out my door and into Noah's bathroom where I found him messing in the medication cabinet.

'I'm just getting my toothbrush. What you looking for?'

'I kept emergency money in here and placed it in a secret medicine pot but I've completely forgot which one.'

'Well it can't be that much money so just leave it. I've got a couple hundred in the bank I think so we can just use that for the while.' I picked up my toothbrush from the stand and began walking out.

'There was £1650 here.' He murmured. I stopped in my footsteps nearly dropping my toothbrush.

'What kind of person keeps £1650 in there medicine cabinet?!'

'Just keep getting ready!' He motioned his hand at me to get out of the room and continue getting ready.

'Noah?' I whispered facing the ground.

'Yeah...' Noah acted like he was listening when really he was fiddling with the medication.

'Do we actually have a plan? When we get back in that taxi and never look back, where are we actually going?'

He paused in his tracks. He slowly raised his hands to his head and let out a huge sigh.
'I don't know babe, but I'll figure it out I promise. It's me and you against the world.'
