Kabanata 36 

After a rather hectic week, lahat ng students sa College of Law ay nagkaroon ng kaunting pahinga dahil mayroon daw na announcement iyong dean. Everyone's required to attend—and hindi ko sure kung magandang bagay ba sa akin iyon.

I was already way behind the lessons at nakaka-start pa lang ako na humabol. Tapos ngayon tuloy, iyong supposed to be na ididiscuss ngayon ay nasama sa walang katapusan na listahan ng kailangan kong i-self-study.

"Hey," Parker said. Magkatabi kami sa usupuan sa auditorium since hindi naman required na maupo per year. Ahead sa akin si Parker ng isang taon.

"Sorry," I said and then stiffed my yawn. "Antok talaga ako," I continued and wiped the water pooling in my eyes.

Parker reached for my head and made me lean on his shoulder. He kissed the top of my head. "Sleep. I'll just tell you the announcement," sabi niya habang papikit na talaga ang mga mata ko.

Hindi ko alam kung gaano ako katagal naka-tulog, pero tinatapik na ni Parker iyong mukha ko. Pagdilat ko, nakita ko na kami na lang ang nasa auditorium.

"Tapos na?" I asked. He nodded. "Hala. Ano'ng oras na?" nagpapanic na sabi ko. I had a class in Criminal Law that I shouldn't miss. I already failed that class and it would really dent my soul kung ibabagsak ko siya ng isa pang beses.

"It's 2pm," sabi niya. Nanlaki ang mga mata ko.

"What?! Bakit hindi mo ako ginising?!"

I began to panic. My class was in the third floor and I would have to do a mad dash para makarating agad doon. My prof's not that forgiving when it comes to late comers dahil pakiramdam niya, naiinterrupt ang flow of discussion kapag may mga epal na pumapasok sa kalagitnaan ng class.

And God, I didn't want to be the next victim of humiliation. That prof of mine really had a knack in making people feel like shit. I mean, every prof naman yata ang goal nila dito sa law school ay palayasin iyong mga iyakin. I cried like a lot during my first week in law school.

I was quickly gathering my things when I saw Parker almost laughing at me.

"This is not a laughing matter," I said, frowning. "Kapag talaga napahiya ako sa gitna ng class, nako, sinasabi ko sa 'yo, Parker Palma," I warned him.

"Relax, Gen. All the professors have meetings. The Dean announced free-cut for the entire day."

I swear, my heart stopped. Tapos... naibato ko kay Parker iyong bag ko.

"Bwisit ka! Muntik na akong atakihin sa puso dito!" naiinis na natatawa na naiiyak na sabi ko. Ayoko kasi talagang ma-late!

Parker, being the jerk he was when he's in the mood, kept on laughing. Ano na namang nakain nito at tawa nang tawa?

"Sorry. I just saw an opportunity to make fun of you. I took it," sabi niya.

I eyed him. "You're mean."

"And you're sleeping on almost everything," sabi niya. "Don't you think I haven't noticed?"

I arched my brow. "So?"

Parker's laugh stopped. He stood up and looked at me. Kahit malamig ang aircon sa auditorim, pakiramdam ko ay bigla akong kinabahan.

"Are you pregnant?"

My heart... began to beat wildly inside my chest. Like it wanted to jump out of my ribcage and dive in the floor because of what Parker said.

Pregnant?
