Scarlett hadn't returned to lessons that day. Or lunch.

She knew that Theresa would be dead by now. She didn't know how she was so certain, she just knew.

Strangely enough, the girl hadn't shed a tear when Dumbledore told her later that day. He probably thought it was odd, that a best friend didn't cry over the decease of the other friend, but he let her be nonetheless.

She had grieved enough already. Her grief had started two weeks before Theresa's death, but now that she was really actually dead, she didn't feel any sadness.

_______________

Remus joined his friends in the Great Hall for dinner. He was worried about Scarlett, because she didn't show up for lunch, or any lessons. And now, she didn't even come to dinner.

"Moony, where have you been?" Sirius asked him seriously. Remus frowned.

"We have to talk about something important," James informed him. Remus sat down next to Peter.

He looked from Peter to Sirius, and then to James, and then around the Hall.

"Is Theresa still gone? Scarlett told me she had to go because her mum's sick–"

"Moony, Theresa is dead," Sirius interrupted him.

Remus froze. "What?"

"Turns out her trip to care for her sick mother was a trap. Her mother's in Baltimore right now; it's business trip," James said.

"So, do you think she was killed?" Remus asked, and if he was being frank, he hated it.

"Yup," Peter said, plopping the P.

From across, Sirius slapped his face.

"Could you be a bit more insensitive?"

"Sorry," Peter said, shrugging.

Remus stood up abruptly, grabbing some bread, and headed off to where he thought Scarlett to be. He knew her like the back of his hand.

______________

She sat atop of the Astronomy Tower, braiding her brown hair.

She thought about her mother scolding her for having long hair. Her mother thought it was not appropriate for a girl her age to still have long hair, whilst the girl itself only smiled in return.

After today's incident, she wanted to cut her hair. Only to be at peace with herself.

She knew what she shouldn't think about, like the memories Theresa has given her, or actually anything about the deceased. So she didn't.

She remembered reading how too much sadness could affect the child, and then she remembered that she was pregnant.

She lay her hands on her stomach and sighed. "Hey baby," she whispered hesitantly, "I don't think you can hear me, but I need you to tell me what to do."

She opened her mouth to continue when a shadow creeped up behind her. She turned around to see Remus.

She stared at him, and he pulled her into a hug.

However, she didn't cry. He probably noticed it.

"How are you feeling?" He asked her sincerely.

She felt like crying. She loved Remus, but the word love didn't even begin to express her feelings for him.

She looked at him with loving eyes. "I'm not feeling anything. I felt like this was going to happen."

"What do you mean?" He asked

When she didn't respond, he asked, "Is this another one of your secrets? I thought you told me everything."

She stayed silent again.

He huffed, running his fingers through his hair.

"You knew it all along, didn't you? About Theresa, I mean," he figured after a while.

She hesitantly nodded. "How?" He asked.

She sighed. She really didn't want to tell him. But she knew he trusted her, so why couldn't she trust him?

She chose her words carefully, and slowly told him everything.

"I knew it because I could see it. I was reminded of her deadline every time I looked into her eyes. When I look into yours, I see it, too. But I try to block it out."

She didn't look at him.

"So, you could tell me when I will die?" He asked, still realizing what she had just said.

"Technically, I could. But I won't. You couldn't live your life if you knew when it ends. Just live and you'll see," she said, "But don't forget there's death."

He looked at the girl he loved so much, and he felt his heart sink when he realized she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders.

He pulled her into another hug, and then she cracked. She started sobbing, and her vision was blurred because of the tears.

They gave the perfect picture. She had a boy that cared for her, and he had a girl that cared for him.

It would be perfect, if they both weren't so fucked up.
