"What?" You called out, shock and indignation filling the word.
"Y/N, no, I—hm! I did not mean that!" Lex replied panicking slightly.
"You said it out loud! Of course you meant it!" You cried.

From the beginning, this day had gone from bad to worse, but this was the epitome of it. During your usual ride to work, the two of you had started arguing over Heaven knows what. And while the two of you would often fight, this particular discussion had escalated like never before.
"Is that how you feel about me?" You could feel your eyes stinging as tears threatened to fall "do you really think that my life and work are little compared to yours?"
"What? Y/N, of course not! Wh—Why do you twist my words like that!? That is not what I said or meant!" He looked at you pleadingly as he grew more desperate with every passing second.

You looked at him for a moment before you opened the car door, almost catching Lex's hand in it as you slammed it shut behind you.
In one swift movement, he had the driver turn off the engine as he got out to follow your furious stride.
"Y/N!" he called, climbing up the stone steps two at a time. You felt his hand touch your arm but you removed it from his grasp before he could even take it. "God damn it, wait!" He cursed behind you.

"Lex!" You turned around abruptly, almost making him trip. You gazed at him with watery eyes, then you looked around; people were staring at both of you and the last thing you needed right now was gossip, so you breathed sharply and lowered your voice. "Please... just go." You turned your back at his dumbfounded figure and continued your way until you disappeared behind the large glass doors of the building you worked at, the one which was not good enough for anyone related to Lex Luthor.

You ran across the reception and into the elevator to your office. Once you were there, you locked the door, threw yourself on a couch and let your tears fall freely.

On the sidewalk outside, Lex stood staring at the window of your office for a while; but he didn't attempt to follow you anymore.

You woke up with a start to a tremendous noise.

How long had you been asleep?
Judging by the light coming from your window, you presumed that it had been no more than an hour, but you didn't cared about that as much as you did for the noise that had first awakened you. And that was now making the whole room tremble.

It was the sound of the entire building collapsing on top of you.
