"Mrs. Layman is officially on the top of my 'worst teachers in the history of education' list." Reece glumly exclaims with no evidence of his usual optimistic attitude.
I slam my locker shut to see him glaring at nothing in particular with his arms crossed. "Oh get over it already. It's just this one project and then we can convince Mrs. Layman to put us back as partners." I try to cheer him up by giving him a long term solution. "We just have to get past this assignment."
Reece chuckles darkly, "that's the thing Z-lee, my new partner and I won't have any time to do this stupid Bio shit and you and I both know that I would be the one solemnly convincing that old hag to put as back as lab partners."
I sigh and drag him towards the doors so he doesn't sulk in the school any longer. If that kept up, his fan girls would immediately assume that I had done something to upset him which would result in deadly glares aimed at me. At the end of the day, I'm not really feeling it for glares. I don't want my happy mood to be destroyed.
Sure it sucks that Reece and I can't be partners for the new Bio assignment but come on, it's the end of the day. Who isn't happy at that? The time has come to go home and relax before furiously trying to complete homework.
Actually, now that I think about it, I don't have anything to do besides begin the bio assignment. Since Charlie sort of saved me today in class with the whole project due date reminder, I offered him to work on the project today at home. It's the least I could do. Charlie wasn't too keen on the idea but eventually agreed.
"Well, that's not my problem anymore now hurry up! I don't want to miss the sub!" I say in a rush, trying to push past students. Thankfully, when they notice Reece, they move aside, paving a clear road to freedom.
"Wow, I am so lucky to have such a caring friend. Excuse me while I go brag about you to the world." Reece announces in complete sarcasm. I give him a glare in response.
"If you don't want to hang at my place then toodles!" I wave at him and book it to the exit doors. Walking out to the cold winter afternoon, I keep my gaze set forward to the distant Subway entrance. Not the restaurant though, sadly.
Dang, why did I have to think of food? Now I'm hungry.
I wonder what I should have when I come home. My parents won't be home till late so that gives me plenty of time to snack on anything I like without having my mom pestering me on healthy eating.
This is what awaits me every time my mom is actually at home. The perks of having a famous dietitian as a mother.
She would be tearing up a storm if she got to see all the junk food ideas popping up in my head. She would be forcing vegetables down my throat if she ever found my dad's and mine secret unhealthy food choices stash in my bedroom.
I think I have a bag of all dressed Ruffles that haven't been opened yet.
I grin to myself while currently approaching the staircase to the subway platform. It appears as though I have figured out what I'm going to eat when I come home.
"You better share the chips with me."
I frown slightly, taken back that he knows about my Ruffles chip bag. Then again, he was with me at the grocery store when I bought them. "You can have a little."
Reece rolls his eyes as we enter the sub train that is filled with students eager to go home. "Fifty-fifty. This is your only deal."
Someone from behind pushes me forward but Reece prevents me from tripping. His arm locks around my waist and brings me up against him.
"That's a shitty deal. You'll probably just end up stealing my bag and taking all the chips for yourself." I answer, secretly proud of myself that I didn't stutter one bit. I wish this sort of action could happen more often like when we were kids. Reece would always have me in his arms to make sure no one harmed me. We even slept together in the ridiculous amount of forts we used to make.
