The Things I Carry

When the sun shines high,
I carry laughter in my words.
When the storm clouds begin to pour,
I carry joy in my heart.
When I read beautifully written fantasies,
I carry bliss and tranquility in my mind.
When the voices of my loves reach my ears,
I carry glee down to my fingertips.
When I see the smiles of strangers,
I carry peace.
But the weight of hostility is heavier...
No matter the delight of the days ahead or before,
Demons stretch their arms far enough
To infest my lungs with smoke
And freeze my veins with snow.
With every trudge throughout the halls,
I carry a grave annoyance
For the imbeciles with disrespect.
I carry irritation and indignation
To the words of ignorance and idiocy.
I carry stress and frustration
For the piles of work and lack of understanding
But most of all, I carry impatience,
And it will be my destruction.
