You’ve had a few dates with Sidney now and you were really starting to like him. He had asked you to be his girlfriend after your third date and you said yes because he was everything you’ve ever wanted, but you were worried about what people would say because of your age difference. You were only 19, which didn’t bother Sid because you guys got along great, but other people might not think it was great.
You were sitting on his couch next to him watching a game. You must have looked deep in thought because Sid asked, “You alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, why?” you said looking at him.
“Because you looked pretty intense right then. You sure you’re ok?” He said turning the game off and turning towards you.
“Yeah, I’ve just been thinking—“
“Oh, God, you want to break up don’t you. I knew dating me was a lot of work, but I really like you and just please give me a cha—“
“Sid!” You said smiling, “I don’t want to break up with you. Not at all.”
He looked relieved, “Woo, good. So what IS going on?”
“Well, I was thinking about how I’m only 19 and you’re 26 and some people might find that weird. I don’t want people thinking badly about you because you’re dating a ‘kid’ or something.” You said feeling insecure and looking at your feet.
“I don’t care what they say.” Sid said after a little bit of silence. “I like you for you, not how many years you’ve been alive. If people have a problem with it they can keep it to themselves. Do you have a problem with it?” He asked grabbing your hands that you were ringing together.
“Well, no, I don’t. I just don’t want you to ever be embarrassed by me. Like if we are out with the guys or something and they give you crap about it, I just don’t want to be the reason you’re uncomfortable.”
“Baby, have you seen me out in public? I always feel uncomfortable. But I will never feel uncomfortable because of you. In fact, I feel more comfortable when you’re around. I know I’m not old, but you make me feel young. You’re giving me my teenage years back that I had to give up for hockey. I promise I’ll never feel embarrassed by you, ever. Please don’t worry about everyone else because they aren’t you and me. They aren’t a part of this relationship. Okay?”
He said as he moved his face closer to yours. Looking into his eyes, he smiled sweetly at you before he leaned in and kissed you gently.
“Okay.” You say breathlessly as you he pulls away, feeling much better about everything.
