“Good luck, babe.” You said as you leaned up to kiss Brendan. He was about to go onto the ice for warm ups and you were going to head to your seat for the game.
“I’ll miss you.” He said as you started to walk away. You rolled your eyes at him and smiled. Secretly you loved how cheesy he was.
Later on…
It was the middle of the third and the Habs were tied at 2. Brendan got hold of the puck and raced down to the end of the rink and shoots and scores! Everyone stood up screaming and celebrating, but when you looked over to see Brendan celebrating with his teammates there was a very different atmosphere on the ice. You saw Brendan was down on his hands and knees on the ice. You immediately looked up at the big screen to watch a replay of what happened. You saw the playback of the goal and as Brendan put the puck into the net a player from the other team failed to stop himself and rammed right into Brendan. The hit sent him flying back into the boards behind the net and there he was unable to get up.
At this point you were worried because it wasn’t like him to stay down for so long and you figured something was really wrong. Finally he made an attempt to stand up, but almost fell back down again when he tried to put pressure on his leg. Luckily, Alex and Prusty were there and grabbed him and helped him off the ice. Brendan immediately went to the locker rooms.
You rushed down to the security and told them who you were and they let you through. You ran into the locker room as the trainers and medical staff were looking Brendan over. You walked over to them, but made sure you stayed back far enough so you weren’t in the way. Brendan looked up at you and tried to smile his million dollar smile through the pain he was in. You tried to not look so worried and smiled back at him as comfort.
Finally, they decided that he had seriously damaged his right leg and had to go to the hospital to get x-rays. They walked away from him to go set up for an ambulance to come get Brendan and take him to the hospital. You walked closer to him and immediately grabbed him into a hug.
“Hey, easy now, I’m alright, baby.” He said soothingly rubbing your back with the arm that was around you. You hadn’t even noticed that you had started to cry in relief that it wasn’t anything too major. You buried your face in his neck so the others wouldn’t see you crying.
“It’s probably just a broken leg. I’ll be out for a bit, but at least I have you to keep me company.” He said into your hair, trying to make you feel better.
You looked up at him and wiped away your tears, “You are the one who is hurt here. I should be trying to cheer you up, not the other way around.”
He smiled at you as said, “Just being able to look around the room and see your face a few minutes ago when they brought me in here, cheered me up. Thank you for being here.” He leaned in to kiss you. You kissed him back for a few short seconds until a man cleared his throat. You pulled away and looked to see it was the paramedic. You moved out of the way as they got Brendan onto a rolling bed and started to take him to the ambulance.
“Are you coming with him?” The paramedic asked you.
“Of course she is.” Brendan said before you could respond. He looked over and smiled at you as you reached out to grab his hand.
