You were getting dressed for your formal that you had to attend for your sorority and as you were putting on your earrings and rushing around because you were already late you remembered that Brayden wouldn’t be joining you tonight as your date because he was on a road trip with the team. You hadn’t seen him in almost a month because he lived in a different city than you did and work or school always seemed to get in the way. Brayden apologized over the phone a million times over the day before he left for.

“It’s alright, babe. It’s your job. I know that if you could go you would.” You said trying to comfort him. You made it seem like it wasn’t a big deal, but the truth was you were pretty bummed about it.

You slipped on your shoes and shut the light out before walking out the door to the party hall. You were new to the sorority, but thankfully you made a few good friends. They met you as you left your dorm building, “Hey girl! You look gorgeous!” your friend Sarah said.

“Thanks, Sarah.” You said a little shyly, you weren’t so good with compliments and honestly you were sad about Brayden. “You look great, too.” You said half-heartedly. Sarah introduced you to her date and Katy, your other friend, did the same. You were the only one without a date and it made you want to turn around and walk back up to your room, put some sweats on and finish season 3 of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix.

You walked into the party hall that was beautifully decorated thanks to you and a few other pledges. There were people all around and you were looking for your place to sit.

“Come on, girl! Don’t be so sad! We’re going to have so much fun!” Katy said trying to get you to smile.

“I know.” You smiled a little, “I just wish Brayden was here.”

“Good thing I am then, yeah?” you heard a familiar voice behind you. You got butterflies in your stomach and your pulse raced quickly as you slowly turned around to see Brayden standing there all dressed up and holding a single red rose.

A smile crept onto your face, “What are you doing…” you trailed off as he walked up to you and handed you the flower.

“Surprise.” He said with a smile and leaned in to kiss your lips. His hands sat on your hips, holding you close.

You pulled away, “I thought you had a game tonight?” looking at him, still finding it hard to believe he was standing in front of you.

“Yeah, well I might have fibbed a bit. We did have a game today, but it was an early game and it gave me just enough time to hop on a plane and be here to surprise you.” He said, still not letting you go.  You looked over at Katy and Sarah who were smiling like crazy.

“You knew didn’t you.” You stated, looking at both of your friends.

“Surpriiise.” Sarah said joyfully.

You laughed and shook your head at how great your friends were.

You had a wonderful time with your friends and Brayden as you sat and ate your dinner and laughed and joked together. After that you guys moved to the dance floor and started doing the standard party dances like the Cha-Cha slide and the Cupid Shuffle. You all were laughing and having a great time when a slow song came on and people started pairing off and getting close to their dates.

“Can I have this dance?” Brayden asked you as he grabbed your hand and put his arm around your waist.

“Of course.” You smile at him at your other hand that he wasn’t holding went to his shoulder. You both swayed to the music for a few seconds before you both adjusted yourselves so your bodies were touching and your faces were in each other’s necks.

“You look beautiful, by the way.” He said into your ear.

“You don’t look so bad yourself.” You said. You felt him smile against your shoulder and that sent tingles throughout your whole body. “I’m so glad you are here. I missed you so much.”

“Not nearly as much as I missed you.” He said before hugging you tighter.
